Hayley says “it’s a celebration of how old and weird England is. It’s also funny, it’s kind, it challenges racism as well.”

The artist Grayson Perry has been mining a profitable seam for a while now, making documentaries that in essence ask the English to explain themselves. Profitable in the widest sense, I mean – though obviously I hope and presume he is paid a fair wage for his work. The interrogations of class (in All in the Best Possible Taste With Grayson Perry), masculinity ( All Man) and other forms of identity (in, for example, Divided Britain, which interviewed leavers and remainers about Brexit), in unhurried programmes directed by Neil Crombie, have all been fresh and illuminating. They are full of insights – provided by the endlessly perceptive Perry himself or by the interviewees who open up under his warm curiosity and direct, unaggressive questioning. Eve decides to enter her band, Bloodmonkey, into Britain's Got Talent. They're not very good. But thanks to a misunderstanding, Simon Cowell thinks her parents are dead, and the sympathy vote looks like it might propel her all the way to the final (where she'll be up against an asthmatic girl in a wheelchair who plays the violin). Meanwhile, Edgar and Wendy go away for their anniversary, but unknown to them their eldest son Dusty has stowed away as a surprise. And Ken attempts to rekindle an old romance with Her Majesty the Queen – invoking jealousy of Squidge.

Various other characters in the show are voiced by series regulars: Simon Greenall, Lucy Montgomery and Darren Boyd.Wendy Johnson ( Rosie Cavaliero) – the wife of Edgar and the mother of Dusty, Jason and Eve, a housewife in her mid-50s who tires of minding after her family, as she is often the only one capable of doing so. She is not unhappy with her home life, it just leaves her feeling unfulfilled. Wendy is the apple of her father, Ken's, eye. Spoofs: Skins, Britain's Got Talent, Simon Cowell, Jeremy Kyle, Ant & Dec, Adolf Hitler, Elizabeth II, Stephen Fry, Gregg Wallace, Geordie Shore

Full English first aired on 12 November 2012, with the first series ending abruptly after the final episode, due to air on 17 December 2012, was pulled from schedules in the morning, over fears from Channel 4 bosses that the episode would've been seen as "offensive" to the gypsy community. [1] It was replaced with a repeat of Alan Carr: Chatty Man. The episode, titled "My Big Fat Gypsy Knightmare," revolves around a character named Eve who fears becoming conventional like her parents. In an act of rebellion, she decides to marry a gypsy boy. Originally scheduled to air as the fourth episode, it was later delayed until the end of the season to allow for additional deliberation by Channel 4 executives regarding its content. Hayley says, “I thought it was really well done. He’s trying to do something huge, and I think the point of it is that you can’t boil the concept of Englishness down to a simple answer. It is this unwieldy, changeable idea that he’s trying to capture.”

Dusty surprises the family by bringing home a girl. An inflatable one. Wendy decides he needs a girlfriend so she hires him an escort – without exactly realising what that word really means. Meanwhile, Eve overdoses on chocolate during a tour of Ken's confectionery factory. Ken has a crisis of conscience about manufacturing food that makes people fat and contemplates selling up to his arch-nemesis and occasional squash partner Richard Branson. And tiny aliens plan to take over the Earth. You can also discover what series are available for free online by using the price filter on JustWatch. Find the best TV series to stream at JustWatch He speaks to all kinds of people, and disagrees with some of them when he’s with them, but he doesn’t do it in a combative way. He’s looking for answers, not fights. He speaks to the people who have taken it upon themselves to patrol the shores of Dover, and finds that for them the concept of Englishness is steeped in whiteness and a lot of WWII nostalgia. Whereas when he was speaking to (I think) one of the druids, they told him that if you landed in the country yesterday and wanted to call yourself English, they considered you as English as they are.”

Evelyn "Eve" Johnson ( Daisy Haggard) – the youngest of the Johnson children. She is 14 years old, fat and an emo (or a Goth, it is unclear) who struggles with her diet and social life. She is moody, surly and monosyllabic towards her family, but shows a fanciful and romantic side in other contexts. She is also the lead vocalist of a punk band, Bloodmonkey. a b c "Full English – Character Profiles – Characters – Channel 4". Archived from the original on 17 November 2012 . But surely he is there to question what many would call a racist’s psyche, and either dismantle their arguments or grant the existence of an occasional kernel of truth (some people do come for a better life rather than simple succour – why, how and should that change things?). If he is not here to mark the difference between the second option and the rabid froth that gathers round it, what is Perry’s job?
