You might think that with only 17 action cards, the gameplay would get stale, but I haven’t even mentioned the Advantage and Epic Tale cards. Wade: Inis is the devil. I think Iron Maiden has a song called “ Inis” on their latest album. C is the only button you really need to add to your gun for the game. When you do this, you can’t do a traditional reload, but switch guns in the game with C auto reloads for you. This was the best solution I came up with, it was either this or don’t map either A or B and map reload still, which makes it so you can’t strafe 1 direction in game and you can’t pull up the snipe shot, because it requires A and B to be held together. Hopefully, in the future, someone will come up with a better way. Of course, my opponents would do anything before the round ended to prevent me from winning whenever I took the Pretender token. It is natural to question, “How did you win Inis, then?” The answer lies in tempo. It is closely related to take pass as an action besides playing Season card and taking this token. It is obligatory to know when to pass and delay taking any other action. By doing this, you can spectate what your opponents are planning.

Although battle is a part of the game you can’t just go and stomp all over the other players, well you can but not if you want to win! This part of the game is a big part of the appeal as the battle of the minds is as important as the battle over territory. But let’s not forget the cards you draft too. The drafting isn’t a straight forward draft one pass the rest but includes some interesting decisions to make to get you to your hand to 4 cards. Inis is a fantastic looking and playing game! If you need to move your clans this turn, you will know what cards will be available to facilitate it. If there is only only one specific card that will work for you, then maybe you can finagle a way to make sure you get that card. Lastly, the limited card pool allows you to effectively deny cards to your opponent during the draft. Denying cards has always been one of my weak points as a player. Keeping tabs on my own cards is hard enough! In Inis, however, I felt like I could identify which cards would be beneficial to my opponent and keep those for my own uses. Game Play

Obviously, this doesn’t happen every single time but the concerns are legitimate especially when you consider how easy it is to pull it off. I do expect designers to have rules or a system in place to lessen the impact of inexperienced players and Inis fails at doing this. Let’s talk some details, because it isn’t just the tense moments, but the way the game masterfully constructs and supports them: I think each of those criticisms overlap somewhat, in that they speak to a certain player type that isn’t going to enjoy this game. My rebuttals aren’t likely to sway you if this simply isn’t your style of game, and that’s fine. I moved into a neighboring tile to try to also get Sanctuaries, but was thwarted by a truly nasty Yellow card that benefited my opponent in combat. Temporarily stymied, I began passing on my turn to allow others to deplete their cards before making my final moves, which weren’t too powerful. I was still the Brenn and had a single VC, so I’d win a lot of tiebreakers, but was at the mercy of the rest of the table due to the lost combat.
