About this deal

With its fine grain and medium contrast, it is suitable for a range of photographic styles, including portraits, landscapes, and street photography. Its excellent exposure latitude and wide tonal range make it a reliable choice for both beginners and experienced photographers. Kentmere 400 ISO (ASA and DIN) In our recent Global Film Users Survey, 75% of the the 8600+ respondents used 120 format so there are a lot of medium format photographers out there. While all of our ILFORD films are available in this format we wanted to ensure there is choice at different price points. Kentmere Pan 100 and 400 films are not necessarily intended as ‘professional’ films, yet we have seen you can still create exceptional results all professionals would be proud of." Available now I like the look of this film, but honestly I don’t think I will be pushing it to 3200 again. For the price, this is a really nice go-to film. Especially for myself when testing out cameras or just having the urge to take pics around the house. However, it is only slightly cheaper than HP5, and for that little bit of extra tonal range, I find myself reaching for HP5 more often than Kentmere. ISO, which stands for International Organization for Standardization, is a standardized measure of film sensitivity across the globe. The equivalent measure in the American Standards Association ( ASA) system is also 400, because ASA and ISO use the same numerical scale. So I’ve given a lot of disclaimers so far, and I want to add yet one more, but this is probably the most important disclaimer. Except in the case of one film (which we’ll get to later), I used the same developer: Kodak HC 110.

It’s probably not going to be found on shelves in supermarkets or other non-specialised stores though, like some colour negative consumer-grade Kodak films sometimes are. The overall character of the film is said to be quite bright, with good detail in the shadows, silvery highlights and a nice grey tone throughout. This again seems to reinforce the overall medium contrast thing. In fact, this is the one Ansel Adams himself recommended for those learning the zone system. It has a long shelf life and it’s cheap to use as one-shot. It’s not great for pushing, but we’re not doing any of that for this test. At box speeds, I feel like it’s a strong choice for most of these films. For many of these films, people will argue that other developers would be better to start out with. I’m not disagreeing with that, but again, I had to start somewhere and I certainly can’t test all of them. Despite the fogging, apparently this article’s main comparisons — Kentmere vs equivalent ORWO films — worked to a certain extent. As you can see, I shot a lot of architectural subjects on this roll. I developed the film in HC-110, Dilution B, and scanned the negatives on my Plustek 8200i scanner. Several of my film-photography friends get best results from this film when they develop it a little longer than what the Massive Dev Chart says, so I gave it about an extra minute. The negatives were appropriately dense when they came out of the tank. Like the aforementioned Ilford Pan 400 and Rollei Retro 400, Kentmere Pan 400 has two main attributes that make it good for street photography. I started to worry about it, but decided to just go for it. I pretty much used the Tri-X recipe. Here’s how I did it: I also did the digitization with a Nikon D750, Tamon SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 lens, and an improvised scaning setup involving a hole in a box. Kentmere offers a more classic look from being less perfect (vs. TMax), having more visible grain and lower contrast. Kodak TMax 400 is very modern and smooth looking from the fine T-grain structure. T-Max 400 is the best 400 speed film, especially in 35mm film format in terms of resolving power and look for my taste. That said TMax is so perfect it can look almost digital especially in 120 film format. I do quite like the classic look of film photography so Kentmere 400 will suit my needs in many instances and especially for low light. More Kentmere sample photos Whereas Lupus may have inherited the Agfa APX name, Rollei inherited the technology. Most agree that Rollei RPX is the successor of the old Agfa APX. Rollei RPX is known for its high dynamic range and holding details in the shadow. It is fine grained and shows some high contrast. Allegedly, this film was designed to be pushed. While it was introduced as a low-cost film eight years ago or so, it currently sells at more on the expensive end at 18 cents per frame, in the US. Rollei RPX is a bit more challenging to scan than some, as it does have some significant curling after drying.Kentmere Pan 400 is panchromatically sensitised and can be processed in a wide range of different developers using spiral tanks, deep tanks, and automatic processors. FP4 has been around since 1968. HP5 since 1976. The initial versions at least. Plus versions were introduced later on. This spreadsheet is based on the split 10 decision-making process, though simplified a bit and customized to fit, specifically, to our blind film test. As I develop my own film I shoot it at box speed (meaning if the box says ISO 400 I meter at ISO 400 (or guess ISO 400 or just be aware the camera is expecting ISO 400). If I know that there was insufficient light when I took the photos and I really needed ISO 800 or ISO 1600 I make a note. Under exposed film To get the best results, fresh film that is not expired should be used. Film should also avoid being stored in hot temperatures, that can be found in large distribution centers.
