About this deal

Holub, Christian; Agard, Chancellor (December 14, 2017). "The best comics of 2017". Entertainment Weekly. Archived from the original on August 15, 2018 . Retrieved August 4, 2018. Mako/Bolin/Tenzin all get some nice action and Zhu Li is awesome as always. But the main strength of the comics is definitely its focus on Korrasami. These two are so sweet together, but at the same time the comic doesn't make a mistake of having everything be sweet and rosy. Korra and Asami are clearly just learning how to be in a relationship, with plenty of miscommunication and misunderstandings. a b Segarra, Jason (July 25, 2017). " 'Legend of Korra: Turf Wars' (Part One) is a good character study on young women going through a turbulent time in their lives". Adventures in Poor Taste. Archived from the original on August 7, 2018 . Retrieved August 7, 2018.

And finally the characters. I adore Korra and Asami, they are amazing and they are amazing together. Plus we get to see Korra's parents meeting Asami, great scenes with Bolin, Mako, Kay and many faves from the tv series. a b c d e f Holub, Christian (August 8, 2017). "Legend of Korra comic team talks Korrasami, queer representation". Entertainment Weekly. Archived from the original on March 30, 2018 . Retrieved August 3, 2018. Eskey, Nicholas (July 27, 2017). "SDCC '17: Interview: "Legend of Korra" Writer Michael DiMartino and Artist Irene Koh". Comics Beat. Archived from the original on August 7, 2018 . Retrieved August 7, 2018. The artwork is absolutely stunning. I was legit staring in amazement at some of the illustrations for a full minute. The art by Irene Koh and the colouring by Vivian Ng is utterly perfect.. Following the conclusion of The Legend of Korra, DiMartino was touched by positive reactions to Korra and Asami's relationship and felt that there were more stories to tell with the show's characters. Although the shift to the comic book medium was a challenge for DiMartino, it gave the creative team more freedom to explore LGBT narratives. The series was announced in July 2015 and The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars – Part One was published by Dark Horse Comics on July 26, 2017. Part Two was published on January 17, 2018, followed by Part Three on August 22, 2018. Part One and Two were the publisher's best-selling graphic novels of 2017 and 2018 respectively. A library edition collecting the three volumes was released on March 13, 2019.Book Ends: Downplayed, but the series begins and ends on the start of a new stage of Korra and Asami's relationship, both of which involve the new spirit portal. It starts moments after they entered the portal and became a couple, and ends with them watching the portal and having just admitted their love for each other. Conflict Ball: Korra grabs it in Part 1 for believing her parents, who just said how happy they were for her and Asami being a couple, are bigots for warning her that others may not be so accepting, then proceeding to leave in a huff with Asami. I don’t think I’ve talked about this much on here but I am utter trash for Korrasami and I cannot believe it took me this long to read this. The series is followed by Ruins of the Empire, a trilogy that covers the aftermath of the Earth Empire's fall and the beginning of Kuvira's trial. Powerful and Helpless: Avatar Kyoshi is revealed to have been bisexual, and even if she was one of the most influential and powerful past Avatars that have appeared on-screen, all of her efforts to get rid of (or at least reduce) the Heteronormative Crusader attitude of the Earth Kingdom during her lifetime were for naught — society was (and to Korra's sadness, still is) just that stubborn.

I'm in a bit of a comic mood this year and, well, since I love this world I decided it was not a bad idea to continue with some more Avatar for now and see what our sweet characters have gotten themselves into. While no outright homophobia occurs in Turf Wars, the collection does attempt to present a world somewhat similar to our own where bigotry is present. Their friends and family celebrate Korra and Asami’s love, but caution that others might not feel the same way about the new couple. The Fire Nation’s century-long empire enforced strict anti-queer laws that have fostered lingering hate, and the ancient Earth Kingdom still clings to old beliefs and traditions. While a reasonable attempt to provide real-world analogs for the series’ target YA audience, it could also be argued that a fictional setting such as the world of Korra could simply not include such bigotry and give those young readers an ideal to hope for in their own lives.Pursell, Mike (August 23, 2018). " 'The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part 3' is an excellent conclusion to the trilogy". Adventures in Poor Taste. Archived from the original on August 24, 2018 . Retrieved August 26, 2018. While Korra and Asami’s relationship was left more or less ambiguous in the show, the graphic novels were free to explore their feelings. During the vacation in the Spirit World, Korra and Asami finally discuss how they feel and confess when they started falling for each other. Korra explains how Asami helped her recovery after her poisoning, and Asami explains that the three years Korra was gone were very difficult for her. But although they have strong feelings for each other, not everything goes as smoothly at first. Recommended to 'Korra' and non-'Korra' fans alike. To people who love fantasy - spirits, dragons, fantasy action, a diverse array of female characters; as well as race and queer representation this is a dream come true for me - and to people who desperately want to see a glimpse of a bright, hopeful future. For children are our future. Korra tells the refugees that a wise man once told her "change can be good or bad, depending on your point of view." Tenzin told her this in Book 3.
