About this deal

While the best mouse repellent is probably a house full of hungry cats, these products should ward them off before they become a problem. I tested several of the repellent products below in my own home. Being in the middle of Kansas, field mice often make their way into garages and kitchens, so a proactive effort (and cleanliness) go a long way in deterring mice.

Based on the scare principle of deterrence, this repeller emits both ultrasound and LED lights to chase furry invaders away from your vehicle. It draws power from the battery and automatically stops functioning if voltage drops below 10.5 volts. When it comes to using repellents as your method of removing mice from home, it’s important to remember a few things: Crush 2–3 vitamin D or zinc tablets into a fine powder, and mix it with some tablespoons of peanut butter. When mice consume them, the increased calcium levels from vitamin D can cause calcification in the heart and kill them, while the acid in the rats’ digestive system reacts with the zinc and creates a poisonous phosphine gas. Keep these mixtures away from pets and kids! 12. Chili Powder or OilBefore we begin (spoiler alert), the first option is to seal the entry points! I cannot emphasize enough that if a mouse cannot get into your home, you do not have a mouse problem. This formulation is driven by its blend of distilled essential oils. The peppermint and cedarwood oils offer an effective deterrent solution against rodent infestations. The natural, strong scent of peppermint and cedarwood remove rodent odours and destroy pheromone trails. This confuses rats and mice, causing them to abandon their old dwellings find new habitats. The natural oils within this deterrence spray keep their scent for longer than synthetic equivalents, requiring periodic reapplication and providing an effective, long-term solution.

Consumers have mixed results from using electronic repellents, but one thing can be said for certain is that whenever a tester fails to see the positive results, he would blame everyone but himself. That said, many have abandoned the use of a repellent too soon, or have not read and followed the instruction closely, have not cleaned the debris or any other objects that can prevent ultrasound from traveling freely, and overall made many other mistakes that led to their unsuccessful use of a repellent. Also, please be aware this is an exclusionary solution and thus won’t get rid of pests already in your home. #6 – Toro Products Outdoor Pest Control The minty smell won’t leave a chemical-like odor in the air, and while the peppermint smell isn’t unpleasant, it is powerful. The first time I used this Mighty Mint spray, I used too much in an open space and had to air out my kitchen afterward. However, I found that using it in covered and concealed areas (like underneath the kitchen sink) works best, as the smell stays where you need it to.Scientifically proven to repel rodents permanently; indicated frequency may not match up with actual output; lose intensity with distance; mice get accustomed to noises.

Sealing entry points is the best thing you can do to repel mice. If they cannot get into your home, they will not get in. It is as simple as that! When it comes to ultrasonic repellers, these are also very effective as a short-term method but also have a similar downside to the spray. When the mice get to the point where they have no other option but to deal with the sound–they will. As for the poison baits: although, they are super effective, their use is to be avoided especially around kids and pets, due to their high toxicity. However, if used with caution and with the help of special bait stations, rodenticides become an effective mice killer. You can read more on that in our guide on poison baits here: Mice poison. According to the scientists from the Penn State Extension, the foggers are not very effective against rodents. When is the time to hire a professional exterminator? They are lurking in the shadowy corners of your home where your vacuum cleaner can’t reach or inside cabinets or dressers monopolized by unorganized clothes. So clean up and empty your trash cans regularly! Remember, cleanliness is next to mouse-lessness! Starve Mice of FoodThe granular particles are normally made from clay or some other materials and are covered with an active ingredient. Sometimes, the active ingredient is absorbed by granules, but either way it does not exceed 15% of the product’s total weight. Granular repellents are widely used, either for protecting gardens when applied to the soil around around plants or repelling pests from the house when distributed in hard-to-reach areas. This solution is applied even at aircrafts. Next, consider how many mice you want to keep out. If you’re dealing with an infestation, you’ll need a stronger repellent than if you want to prevent a few mice from getting in. This spray has a 4% peppermint oil (not artificial mixtures that just smell like peppermint) concentration that makes it stronger than similar peppermint sprays, allowing it to be more effective and last longer.
