About this deal

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. Well let me tell you it isn't. I have never wanted to throttle two grown women more than Jules and Amber. Granda also is a certified liar, who gave official statements that contradict what he now says. What are we supposed to believe? The Best of Friends gripped me from the stunning opening to the emotional, explosive ending. In this moving novel, Berry creates a beautifully crafted study of secrets and grief among a tight-knit group of friends and of how far a mother will go to discover the truth and protect her children.” —Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Weight of Silence and This Is How I Lied

This situation, the authors write in the book, is to "serve as a cautionary tale for those of us who fall prey to the powerful and the influential." No, it's cautionary for young hot uneducated guys having sex with hotel guests and blindly doing whatever a rich person says instead of using their heads above their waist to make good decisions. Granda made bad choices, often was misled but still he was an adult responsible for his actions. And this book seems to be an attempt to blame-shift by turning it into a major political scandal where the author is the mostly innocent victim. Oh yes before you fly off the handle ( if you haven't already) they did not have sex. he used a turkey baster. she didn't want to "blur the lines of their relationship?) she said " i helped him with his school project and he helped me with mine. He kept me alive i kept him alive" they planned that for WEEKS (the baby i mean) I love it when The Heffleys go away and they all want to do their own thing but never get to do those things. Greg's mum always wants them to spend time together as a family and make memories but nothing ever goes according to her plans either. Hilarious! Art is spectacular as always and takes the story to another level. Isaac Greer is the young man that Jules saved from the icy crash. Isaac goes missing and Jules finds herself at the heart of the investigation. Jules states she did not take Isaac. Where is he? Faced with her son's death, Jules goes mad with grief. Meanwhile, Isaac Greer, the teenage boy she had rescued is now missing and his family is trying to find him.

lots of focus on the sister of kid who goes missing and the fact that she sleeps in her parents bed but… not really that relevant If you've read any of Lucinda Berry's previous work it's no secret that she refuses to skirt around the darker issues in life and just nose dives straight into them, and Off The Deep End was no different. It was devastating, heart-wrenching and suspenseful in simultaneously the best and worst ways. The cover drew me in before. It reminded me on something from out of space. Like watching the earth from out of space with the sun rising. Sleep deprived brain dies that to you… But when looking closer I realised it’s a car sinking in water. I do like the cover. Spot on. I am a compulsive reader of literary novels…but there was one book that kept me reading, the sort of novel I can’t put down… The Perfect Child, by Lucinda Berry. It speaks to the fear of every parent: What if your child was a psychopath? This novel takes it a step further. A couple, desperate for a child, has the chance to adopt a beautiful little girl who, they are told, has been abused. They’re told it might take a while for her to learn to behave and trust people. She can be sweet and loving, and in public she is adorable. But in private—well, I won’t give away what happens. But needless to say, it’s chilling.” —Gina Kolata, New York Times

Within seconds, life as we know is forever changed. Just one faulty connective in the scheme of things can cause a profound tragedy that just keeps on giving. Jules life shatters when she crashes her car into a lake and her son dies. There is one survivor, another boy called Isaac. Jules has nothing to live for, until Isaac starts visiting her in the hospital. But then Isaac disappears and his family are convinced it’s all Jules fault. This book could have been so good, so much better if the adults were easy to tolerate. Jules might have even been someone who I could have developed actual sympathy for, if not for her gross behavior. Not something I really wanted to read about. Maybe things like this does happen, after all the author is a psychologist. It just seemed, out of place. The book has two first person perspectives: Jules, who is having interviews from a psychiatrist, and Issac's mother, Amber, who is going understandably mad trying to find out what has happened to her missing Son.While some people love murder podcast, I love corrupt evangelicals podcasts, so I've listened to several featuring the story of the downfall of Jerry Falwell, Jr. and the toxic culture he fostered on the Liberty University campus. The story is told from alternating POV’s of Amber Greer (Isaac’s mum) and Jules (Gabe’s mum). This style is great love it… not this book. My good friend GirlWithThePinkSkiMask has pointed out (and I agree) that these are the WRONG POVs for this novel - we should have at least heard from Isaac I mean at least once. Amber is a annoying and childish and boring - whining about Jules how she did this and she did that. 😤
