About this deal

There are highs and lows with this camera setup. Overall, though, you end up with solid Poco X3 NFC camera performance, but nothing that sets a new standard. The Poco X3 NFC’s CPU performance is above average, then, but its gaming power is through the roof. There’s nothing obvious that we can put our finger on to explain these – very minor – blips, which leads us to believe that a system stability update is all that’s needed to zap them. Still, right now, the Realme X50 5G and its Snapdragon 765G processor get you closer to that “flagship” feel on a budget. I still find that the impact of a silky-smooth 120Hz display is somewhat dulled when it’s framed and driven by more modest hardware. The extra punch of OLED will always be missed, and the limitations of the phone’s silicon will still result in slight pauses when carrying out tasks such as web browsing. Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 runs on the Poco X3 NFC, and while it isn’t my favourite custom Android 10 skin, it’s perfectly pleasant to use day to day.

There’s really not all that much to say about the latter two, other than the fact that they’re fairly inconsequential. However, the main two sensors are quite a bit sharper than you normally get for the money. Charging is pretty rapid, too, courtesy of a bundled 33W charger. I was able to get the Poco X3 NFC from 28% to 88% – an increase of 60% – in just 30 minutes. That’s way faster than rival efforts such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, which tend to top out at 18W. Should you buy the Poco X3 NFC?Typically, I don’t give bundled-in cases more than a cursory glance, but you might want to consider using the clear silicon example that comes with the Poco X3 NFC. The phone sports a hugely prominent camera module, which the case mitigates with a large circular lip. Subtle it isn’t, but it should prove effective at warding off those inevitable dings. The Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro is a fairly large phone. It’s 76.8mm wide. That’s wider than a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra or the nearer-in-price 21:9 aspect Moto G 5G Plus.

In terms of image quality, you’ll notice significant purple fringing. This is where the areas of very high light contrast are outlined in purple. Trees against a bright sky and reflections in water set this off, and the Poco X3 NFC has one of the most obvious cases of purple fringing we’ve seen in some time. However, it does at least have basic IP53 water resistance, giving it a fighting chance against splashes. Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro: display However, it is outperformed by the Realme 8 Pro, Redmi Note 10 Pro and Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC. This is a big issue if you value camera performance over gaming power. The product warranty does not cover damage resulting from dust or immersion. Please use carefully in appropriate environments. This contractual Warranty applies only to the hardware components of POCO Product (hereafter “Product”) as originally supplied and does not apply to any software or other equipment that are owned by Xiaomi or third parties for which an end-user license agreement or separate warranty/guarantee statements or exclusions are provided or intended to apply. 1. LIMITED PRODUCT WARRANTYNinety minutes of locally stored video at maximum brightness takes 15% off the battery in the 60Hz mode, or 17% in the 120Hz mode. It’s a fairly minor change, and as far as we know, the phone doesn’t use a dynamic screen refresh to alter the refresh rate to suit what’s on the screen. A main 64-megapixel sensor is supported by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide, and these are supported by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel macro. A better comparison would be the Realme 7 5G, which has a similar combination of low-end processor, 5000mAh battery and 120Hz display; it also loses around 11% in this test. The Oppo Reno4 Z, which pairs a 120Hz display with a much smaller 4000mAh battery, loses a whopping 15-16%. So the Poco isn’t doing all that badly within this subsection of affordable 120Hz phones. The cuts that Xiaomi made to accommodate a relatively high-end processor at a low price are felt most keenly in the Poco X3 Pro's camera.
