About this deal

The Portenta family adds two 80-pin high-density connectors at the bottom of the board. This ensures scalability for a wide range of applications: simply upgrade your Portenta board to the one suiting your needs. USB-C® Multipurpose Connector Right, I was hoping (as discussed in another post #9) it would be the soft version of an ST board. I am a one man developer, and primarily have to focus on the physical engineering of the system in prototyping. The controller is important, but the job it does is relatively basic. Nuanced yes, but realistically could be run on a basic Arduino. However I saw this as the opportunity to lay groundwork with future expansions, for both the prototype and even small scale production. And do some IMU machine learning as well to basically add a whole slew of features.

Select the Arduino Portenta H7 (M7 core) from the Board menu and the port the Portenta is connected to. Upload the simpleWebServer.ino sketch. Doing so will automatically compile the sketch beforehand. Portenta can easily run processes created with TensorFlow™ Lite, you could have one of the cores computing a computer vision algorithm on the fly, while the other could be making low-level operations like controlling a motor, or acting as a user interface. An upcoming Portenta H7 accessory is the Portenta Carrier Board, which will turn the Portenta H7 into an eNUC computer. Yeah, you heard me right, the Portenta H7 is capable of becoming a low-power desktop computer. It’s no contender to a full-fledged SBC, but the Portenta H7 does have the capabilities to connect external modules via miniPCIe which can be used to upgrade its computing power. The Portenta H7 Lite simultaneously runs high-level code and real-time tasks thanks to its two processors. For example, it can execute Arduino-compiled and MicroPython code at the same time, and have the two cores communicate with one another. One of the best features of the Portenta H7 module is the on-board GPU, the Chrom-ART Accelerator. This GPU chip also includes a dedicated JPEG encoder and decoder. The addition of a graphics accelerator opens several possibilities for users. For example, users can now connect an external monitor and build their own dedicated embedded computer with a user interface. This was not possible before as you need a graphics accelerator to drive external displays. This addition alone is going to be a game-changer. In the Arduino IDE we create a new Sketch and make sure we have selected the Arduino Portenta H7 on the M7 core. If you haven't used the Portenta H7 before, here you can find a detailed tutorial on how to get started with it. Beyond the hardware, using a board with an STM32 microcontroller means that developers also get access to our open-source firmware, as well as our libraries and STM32Cube expansion software, to jumpstart their platform. For instance, engineers could look at the way our source code takes advantage of the Chrom-ART graphical accelerator present in our MCU to optimize a video player or a user interface. Another scenario could conceive of coders using our libraries to implement beamforming, a technique that processes sound signals to eliminate ambient noise better and focus on a particular source. Users could also take advantage of machine learning on the Portenta H7 by either running TensorFlow Lite or use STM32Cube.AI to convert a pre-existing neural network into an optimized code for STM32 MCUs. Arduino, a member of the ST Partner Program, will also offer Arduino IoT Cloud and Arduino CLI to facilitate development operations. Bridging the World of Makers and the Imperatives of Professionals Portenta Carrier

You can explore many more examples available from within the IDE by opening them from File> Examples. These include an RPC example allowing the M7 & M4 cores to communicate with each other using Remote Procedural Calls. If you look at the tech-specs of the Portenta H7 module, you will notice that it comes with an onboard wireless module (Murata 1DX dual WiFi 802.11b/g/n 65 Mbps and Bluetooth 5.1 BR/EDR/LE /) that supports the latest WiFi and Bluetooth standards. Apart from the wireless connectivity, the Portenta H7 also comes with various wired connectivity options including UART, SPI, Ethernet, and I2C among others. The Arduino Portenta H7 will be available in different configuration options that you can choose depending on your budget and needs. The default Arduino Portenta H7 comes with following:Two industrial products in one, combining Arduino’s availability of libraries/skills with container-based Linux distribution Mbed OS has a rich API for managing storage on different mediums, ranging from the small internal Flash memory of a microcontroller to external SecureDigital cards with large data storage space. A free program that lights children’s creative fires and allows them to explore projects in areas such as arts & Remember that the built-in RGB LEDs on the Portenta H7 need to be pulled to ground to make them light up. This means that a voltage level of LOW on each of their pins will turn the specific color of the LED on, a voltage level of HIGH will turn them off. 3. Create the arduino_secrets.h Tab For example, use the Portenta Vision Shield to transform your H7 Lite into an industrial camera capable of performing real-time machine learning algorithms on live video feeds. As the H7 Lite can easily run processes created with TensorFlow™ Lite, you could have one of the cores computing a computer vision algorithm on the fly, while the other carries out low-level operations like controlling a motor or acting as a user interface.
