The large leaves are well known for being hairy and heart-shaped, whilst the flowers are huge at 25-30cm across. A fast-growing tall sunflower is the Giant Sungold. These beauties aren’t as massive in height, only growing five to six feet tall, but they still have huge flowers between six and ten inches across. The flowers feature bright yellow petals and, as a pollen-free variety, it’s ideal for hayfever sufferers. Competition with Weeds: Weeds can compete with sunflowers for nutrients, water, and sunlight. Regularly weed the area around your sunflowers, especially during their early growth stages, to minimize competition and give the sunflowers the best growing conditions.Try to plant your seeds directly in the ground if possible rather than planting them in a seedling tray or container with potting mix.
