About this deal

Emma Cahusac, Commissioner for BBC Arts, says: “The first series of Between The Covers sparked a national conversation about books, so I’m delighted it’s returning with another fantastic line up. Continuing BBC Arts’ commitment to books programmes, the series features a broad selection of genres and styles, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I look forward to working my way through the reading list, and joining in the conversation on social media during each episode.” You can’t have a book club without books, and there will be plenty of recommendations on Between the Covers! Each week, Sara Cox and her guests will focus on two books (alongside those brought along by her guests).

Each week, each celebrity guest will bring their favourite book of all time along to discuss with fellow guests. The celebrity panellists keen to share their love of reading include Rob Delaney, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Nish Kumar, Sandi Toksvig, Richard Armitage, Ellie Taylor, Ade Edmondson, Kerry Godliman, Bill Paterson, Annie Macmanus, Chris McCausland, Alex Jones, Ben Miller, Andi Osho, Ed Byrne, Suzi Ruffell, Omari Douglas, Angela Barnes, Adam Kay, Anita Rani, Ahir Shah, Laura Smyth, Jo Brand and Miles Jupp.Atticus, in fact, was going to be the title of the book. He's a man of profound ability, both as a person in society, a lawyer, which matters to me, and as a father.

The metaphor of pottery is perfect for Thrown. Not only do many characters find themselves thrown by events, but they themselves are like the items made in the community centre. Some are more perfect than others. Many have flaws. Some are broken and every single person is unique. What I found so successful too, is the fact that at the end of the book, not every single plot element is resolved; just like real life not everyone gets a happy ending or knows exactly what will happen next.Little Shuggie Bain, bless him. He’s so sweet and so heartbreaking trying to look after his mum - it absolutely broke my heart – and I’m really excited about Douglas Stuart’s new book. BBC Arts has announced the initial line-up and the six exciting new books chosen for series three of Between The Covers; a six-part series on BBC Two designed to bring the nation together by sharing the enjoyment of reading. It is light, pure escapism and a comforting, gentle story but although there IS humour, it isn't what I would call laugh out loud! There is yet so much potential, given the breadth of topics which can be explored, such as the empty nest syndrome, the emerging skeletons within a marriage and childlessness. Not to mention the theme of pottery, which actually can be a nice parallel of the four main protagonists shaping themselves further. Between The Covers (6 x 30’) was commissioned by Emma Cahusac for BBC Arts and BBC Two. Created and produced by Cactus TV, Exec Produced by Amanda Ross with Series Producer Pollyanne Conway. Sindhu says: It's a book about a woman who discovers her mother's extremely colourful, and quite scary and horrifying, past - after her mother has died. The mother has left her a gun, and that's just the start of the story. Sara tells us: "We loved the first series and we were definitely keen to do more — let’s face it, we’re never going to run out of books! So yeah, when we got the call that it was happening again, I was really chuffed. I was also really chuffed that one of the big hitters from last year, I’d already read, so that was a bonus — because obviously there’s quite a lot of reading to do with the 12 books!" Between The Covers (6 x 30) is commissioned by Alistair Pegg for BBC Arts and BBC Two. It is created and produced by Cactus TV. The Executive Producer is Amanda Ross and the Series Producer is Pollyanne Conway. Amanda Ross, co-founder and CEO of Cactus TV, says: “I am often asked how we find and select compelling books for the series, and the simple answer is we read them! Our job was especially tough this series because there have been so many amazing and original books published this season; consequently we were spoilt for choice, so I’m more confident than ever that we have something for everyone.I read all the Judy Blume books and obviously The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole. Riders and Polo combined some fruity frolics and horses and that blew my 15-year-old mind. English lit A-level really brought Shakespeare to life – I read Romeo and Juliet with my sister before she went away to London, cuddled up on a top bunk. The inhabitants of the Inventor's Housing Estate keep themselves to themselves. There are the friendly 'Hellos' when commutes coincide and the odd cheeky eye roll when the wine bottles clank in number 7's wheelie bin, but it's not exactly Ramsay Street. Get this: my cleaner has organised them by colour. It’s not great and I’m too polite to say anything. I don’t know why I’m whispering – I don’t think she reads the Observer. Sara Cox I suggest you find a quiet, comfy spot, grab a brew and brace for your ‘to be read’ pile to get even taller and more teetering, as we return with a fifth series of the world’s most welcoming book club.” — Sara Cox

BBC Arts has announced the initial line-up and the six exciting new books chosen for a new series of Between The Covers, a six-part series on BBC Two designed to bring the nation together by sharing the enjoyment of reading. Sara Cox’s debut novel, Thrown, aboutfour women who attend apottery classheld at a community centre, has gone to Coronet. Each week Sara will open the door to four new famous guests, who will bring along their all-time favourite book and share what it means to them. Plus of course our guests bring in their most treasured tome to wax lyrical about - so get ready for your teetering TBR [To Be Read] pile to be topped with more brilliant books.” My only sight criticism is it was a little predictable at times but it was such a fun read I didn’t mind that too much. Now that the BBC has released the full schedule and reading list for Between the Covers, we’ve got a full rundown of every celebrity guest later in this article.
