About this deal

Smash the patriarchy”. It’s a phrase we know all too well. The ambition to collapse the societal constructs that dictates the power and oppression of the people living in it. Since it is a social construct, it can be recognised, and it can be changed, we all just have to play our part. A few ways in how we have challenged the patriarchy lately Whether this means questioning someone who bullies another, joining a public protest when it demands change in an oppressive system, supporting and amplifying the voice of those who are marginalised, or just changing your responses to those in positions of power — every action plays its part in destroying the patriarchy. 8. Focus On Finding Wholesome Alternatives To The Existing Power Structures There is no evidence that women are any less capable of the jobs and social positions that men predominantly hold. When women are given the opportunity to hold “male” roles, they show themselves to be equally proficient. Researchers recently calculated that it was bias against women, not under-representation, that accounts for the gender distribution seen in the Nobel prizes, for instance. Women are not less intelligent, less logical or less able than men. The roots of patriarchy, in other words, cannot be found in our biology. So, that’s about 180 kids on a playground, roughly 150 of whom are relegated to the outsides of the netball court (which took up the vast majority of the playground), while roughly 30 of the chosen few (the eldest males) were allowed free reign to run and play. Conflating “patriarchal attitudes” with “harmful traditional practices” means that patriarchy is being interpreted in a specific way: my analysis of the CEDAW Committee statements suggests that patriarchy is associated with so-called traditional beliefs or practices including, amongst other things, FGM, sexual initiation practices, early and forced marriage, polygamy, son preference, and violence against women. It could be argued that these practices are being utilised as direct indicators of patriarchy. After all, these practices are incredibly harmful to women and are overt examples of oppression.

The most common usage of “patriarchal” in these concluding observations was in the following way: “[The CEDAW Committee] is concerned at the persistence of patriarchal attitudes and deeply-rooted stereotypes regarding the roles and responsibilities of women in the family and in society” (as used in the concluding observations of Pakistan. Similar examples include Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Cameroon, Uganda, and Marshall Islands). With a style of story telling and drawing that reminds one of Kate Beaton, this amusing historical look at strong women is a joy to read. Translated from the Norwegian. yeah, so I have some follow up questions for that. But before we get there, I know, Rachel, I want to ask you to you specifically help women become feminist founders. So what does that mean? And what does feminism mean to you in 2021? I think this is a term that is often misunderstood. And sometimes like saying you're a feminist can have a very negative connotation to a lot of people. And the word itself, I think, has changed meaning over the last few decades, so I'd love to hear what a feminist founder means to you. While the board continues to face heat from the Opposition, what is important is to get to the root of the problem. Our school syllabi generally show women in traditional garb and it starts from nursery in the phonetics and alphabet representation introduction itself.

5. Anger Is Important, But Not As An End Goal

Surprisingly, it is women who perpetuate the cause of patriarchy themselves. It has been proven and carried out for centuries that women tend to uphold patriarchy because of societal norms and culture. So I suggested that it’d be like using a beard sign to represent men. To which he responded, without irony or sarcasm, Patrilocality is only one way of organizing domestic relations; human societies once displayed a diversity of traditions. But after centuries of Western colonialism that dispersed patriarchal family forms across the globe, fewer than thirty human societies remain matrilocal today. One community of Tibetan Buddhists called the Mosuo provides a fascinating example of a matrilocal society where neither spouse is expected to relocate. Among the Mosuo, grandmothers preside over large multigenerational families. Women own and inherit property through the maternal line and live with their mother’s extended family. Men live in their maternal grandmother’s household and practice a form of “walking marriage,” whereby they visit their partner only at night.

The patriarchal society we live in is just as harmful to men and boys as it is for women and girls and people who identify as gender diverse or nonbinary. Women are generally shown in voluntary roles or in entertainment, food, lifestyle or the fashion industry whereas men are depicted holding paid jobs in school text books, these notions further the cause of gender stereotyping. Building a business, as a feminist, means that you get to create your own economic destiny built on principles that you think are fair, humanistic, and sustainable. Some examples include*: Patriarchy is as old as our religion and religious texts. Just like we all have a religious text in our houses and a religion assigned to our identity, we have patriarchy dictating the terms of our life. So the first step towards dismantling patriarchy is to start the conversation of equality and feminism and make it familiar to your inmates. How does that sound?! If you’re ready to learn how to smash the patriarchy and create a feminist business, you’re going to love today’s episode! what a good note to end on. This has been so amazing. I feel like I could have this panel all day and never run out of things to talk about. But before we go, I'd like everybody to go around. We can start with you, Melanie, and tell people where they can find you and how they could work with you. Every year, between November 25 — the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women — and December 10 — International Human Rights Day — there are 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. We also learn about Hatshepsut, a pharaoh who also happened to be a woman, but dressed as a man, all the way down to wearing a fake beard.
