About this deal

The Magnolia has served as the gateway to the Village since it opened in 1896, less than a year after Pinehurst was founded. It is the second-oldest hotel in the Village behind the Holly Inn, which opened its doors on New Year’s Eve in 1895. The Magnolia Inn by Carolyn Brown is a romance that takes place in the East Texas town of Jefferson, which is home to many B&B’s and antique stores. If you like the Hallmark Channel or romance novels in general, then you will probably enjoy this book. This story is pure fluff. I might not jump to read her often - but I enjoyed it for what it was: a contemporary old fashion PG-love story.... with quirks! As our friendship grows, I realize just how much I needed a sisterhood. And when I catch Archer smiling, I realize that he needed Maggie as well. I just hope that when the time comes to sell the inn, Maggie fights to stay, because I’m not sure we could handle the heartbreak if she leaves.

Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate. When Maggie blows into town, I can’t help but feel inspired by her desire to reinvent herself and when she asks for the local handyman, it becomes the perfect opportunity to provide Archer with purpose and perhaps, a little bit of sunshine. Maggie is thirty-six, recently divorced and embarrassingly unemployed. With a bank account nearing zero she does the only thing she can think of: make a business proposition to her gorgeous and successful estranged mother.

My thoughts: It took this book 3 chapters to get interesting. I was honestly thinking it was just going to be okay, but somewhere near the middle, it became really good. I was annoyed that they kept mentioning characters reading books but not giving titles. They do tell you what the book club is reading but don't share any titles they considered. I looked it up and 2 species of magnolia trees have been naturalized in Massachusetts, so I guess there could be an island named Magnolia in Rhode Island. When I see magnolia I think of southern cities so it threw me off a little. I plan on reading the rest of this series very soon, I don't want a disconnect like I currently have with the Beachside Inn/Marigold Island series. The hardest part of falling in love with the small town of Magnolia and my grumpy handyman is knowing at some point, I'm going to have to sell the inn and leave. What starts out as an act of desperation, soon becomes exactly what the women of Magnolia island were looking for, a sisterhood. Brittany Pressley is a great match for group who were mostly Texan with one of the older ladies, Dotty having some Cajun. She paced well with the story and had a good grasp of the tone needed through each change of emotion and situation. Her work enhanced the story and I enjoy that she does several of Brown's books.Whenever I see a pair, who are disgruntled and barely acquaintances, but have that special spark, forced to work together in a gently-paced, slow burn friends to lovers, I know I'm going to have a good time.
