About this deal

Nearly every review I could find for the Timberland Barstow Alloy Toe Work Boot mentioned the superb level of comfort, and many of those who reviewed these great boots couldn’t help but mention just how many hours a day they wore them. Overtime will be a breeze in the Timberland Men’s Barstow boots. What Makes a Good Boot for Ironworkers? The tobacco leather has a beautiful golden shine to it, and I like the contrasting white stitching running along the upper. All versions of the Moc Toe have a white wedge sole, four eyelets and three speed hooks, and multicolored laces. With a 360-degree Goodyear Storm welt, these boots are practically waterproof (though not entirely), and the leather is solid enough to last for years. The Thorogood Moc Toe features a 360-degree Storm welt, which is a type of Goodyear welt. The brand likely uses a synthetic welt, which helps cut down on cost and weight. While these boots aren’t technically waterproof, the Storm Goodyear welt gets them pretty dang close. Standing up all day in work boots can be uncomfortable, but not in a pair of ironworker boots. The Thorogood Steel Moc Toe is one of the most comfortable boots around. With superb protective features and an 8” shaft, you can wear these boots all day long.

Despite both being called 6-inch boots, the Thorogoods are taller boots, with a top eyelet after the speed hooks to give you more support and prevent the laces from falling out of the speed hooks. (I don’t use the eyelet and just lace up to the top speed hook.) This isn’t true for all moc toe boots, but generally speaking, you’ll have more vertical room in the toe, which is fantastic if you’re kneeling often or very active and on your feet all day. What are Moc Toe Boots Good For?This review will specifically focus on the Tobacco 6” Moc Toe (814-4200), but much of the information still applies to the 8”, steel toe, and other leather options. In this article we discuss Thorogood Moc Toe Sizing for the American Heritage boots. If you are interested in Thorogood work boots, here’s what you need to know about some of their most popular styles: Both the Thorogood Moc Toe and the Red Wing Classic Moc feature a 360-degree Goodyear Welt. The Thorogood has a storm welt attached, which offers a bit more weather resistance, but unless you often work in inclement weather, I don’t think you’ll notice much of a difference. But I’m assuming you’re looking for a decent work boot with a great value. And that’s what the Thorogood Moc Toe is. In short, the Red Wing Moc Toe is constructed more robustly than the Thorogood Moc Toe, and the leather is higher quality, too. And in my opinion, it’s better looking, as well. Not just because the profile is a little more tailored, but because the leather from S.B. Foot Tanning Company is more interesting.

That said, I wouldn’t trust the Thursday Diplomat under harsh conditions as much as I trust my Thorogood Moc Toe. In this article we are going to focus on Thorogood Moc Toe sizing for the American Heritage boots. These boots come in both a wedge outsole and a square-heel outsole. The wedge sole version are very popular because of how comfortable they are.

Customer reviews

Thorogoods use a cotton fabric lining around the toe, which simply won’t last as long as the leather lining Red Wing uses in the vamp. Finally, because the insole is removable, you can also add a custom insert, so they’re a better choice if you have flat feet and want to get a custom orthotic in your boots. If you don’t have a custom orthotic, but want more customized foot support, I recommend Tread Labs insoles. I have worn both boots in wet weather with no issues, although I have not had the boots submerged in water for extended periods of time. When comparing the two kinds of construction, stitchdown is considered more water resistant than a storm welt, but the difference isn’t very significant and neither boot is waterproof. The more important note is that the stitchdown is more flexible, but it’s a tad harder to find a cobbler to resole it and it can’t be resoled as many times.

This brand is a real institution in American boots and is known for really, really serious footwear: they have boots for firefighters, loggers, linemen, and anybody who needs dependable footwear that will last not just for years, but decades. These are also leather lined for extra comfort, which is yet another reason the price is bonkers because I’ve made boots by hand before and leather lining really does add a significant amount of extra work to the process. A lot of guys (me included) prefer speed hooks. The Thorogood Moc Toe has three speed hooks near the top, though the top lace is an eyelet, which I don’t understand—I’ve never seen that on another boot. So American craftsmanship, superb comfort, a dressy bent, and the right to tell everyone you’re wearing Indiana Jones’s boots. What else could you want? Alden Indy PriceOf all the moc toes I’ve tried, there are few brands that deliver the value for money like Thorogood does. There are some downsides to this boot—mainly that it has a plastic welt. But they’re not so expensive that you don’t mind roughing them up.
