The Story of Tracy Beaker has been released on DVD in the UK by Right Entertainment and Universal Pictures Video, under license from the BBC. Hit show Tracy Beaker boasts strong Welsh talent". Wales Online. 19 October 2004 . Retrieved 2 April 2018.The book was published in 1991. I can’t say it was an overnight success but it did better than my others and soon a wonderful producer at the BBC, Sue Nott, told me she was desperate to make it into a TV series. She had trouble though: some people believed Tracy wasn’t an aspirational character and wouldn’t be popular, but Sue persisted. A decade after the first book, the show started. She wanted the sequel to be realistic: “How many young women without much education earn enough, with a daughter, to be able to buy their own home in London today? Being Tracy, she wants to be independent, but with a child, how can she be? So she’s having to scratch around.” Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is now one of Britain's bestselling and most beloved children's authors. She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. More than forty million copies of her books have been sold. The series saw five retail compilation releases which each featured episodes from their respective series, titled " Best of Me" (released on 6 February 2006 [1]), " More of Me" (Released on 22 May 2006 [2]), " Starring Me" (Released on 2 October 2006 [3]), " Totally Me" (Released on 26 March 2007 [4]) and " Farewell from Me?" (released on 7 January 2008 [5]). These releases featured the half-hour version of the series, with two episodes combined into one, except for "Farewell From Me", which contains twelve standard-length episodes. All five volumes were later combined with the DVD release of "The Movie of Me" to form " Tracy Beaker – The Boxset of Me" ( released on 11 February 2008 [6]).

Lizzie McGuire, a U.S. TV series most commonly associated with the "animated thoughts/reactions" concept. Like the original Tracy Beaker book, which spawned a hugely successful TV series, it is a story that simultaneously highlights the damage that was done to Tracy as a child and her resilience and ability to overcome her misfortunes.I wrote several more books about Tracy, eventually moving on to her becoming a mum herself. It would be wonderful if we had Tracy having to go into a home for the elderly, too, bringing her story full circle. But I see Tracy having a wonderful future no matter what, even if it’s only in my head. Through Tracy, I’ve done all sorts of work with the fostering network. Some kids I met said Tracy raised their status at school. Of course, because the books and shows are aimed at children, you can’t include the whole reality. Being a child in care is no picnic. The Story of Tracy Beaker, written by Jacqueline Wilson, was first published in 1991. Wilson's book Cliffhanger had previously been adapted as a two-part drama for television in 1995, though this was the first of her works to become a fully fledged series. The first series was filmed on location at Amherst Lodge in Ealing, which doubled as the care home Stowey House, during Summer 2001. The building, which was a former maternity home and children's home, was sold by Ealing Council shortly after the series aired, and production moved to Cardiff for series 2. Amherst Lodge has since been developed into flats. Wilson has been criticised for being so frank in her treatment of contemporary social issues but she is sceptical about the need to hide difficult things from children, describing it as impossible ‘to protect children from the realities of life; you only have to eavesdrop on a junior school playground to know that children know precisely what’s going on’. A famously voracious reader herself, Wilson famously has a library of over 15,000 books. When she was appointed Children’s Laureate in 2005 she devoted much of her time and resource to encouraging reading aloud in families, commenting 'I think it’s the best gift you can give your child. It’s a wonderful way of bonding together and simultaneously entering the magic world of the imagination’ Tracy, alongside Justine Littlewood and Crash Watkins, appear in Elizabeth II's 80th birthday special.
