About this deal

Knives make up the greater part of our smithy’s production, but we also make Viking long knives with bone handles (called Seax or scramasax). These knives were so important to the Germanic peoples in the period of migration that they actually lent their name to the Saxon peoples and, by extension, some of the lands they once ruled over (Essex, Wessex, Middlesex…). Emerson said the seax also could be employed as a self-defense weapon if needed. It was truly a blade for all seasons: Harvest produce in the morning, fend off the enemy after lunch, and then prepare supper in the evening—all with the same blade. Seax Designs Our historic Viking tools , similar to those of Ragnar the King of Sweden are incredible. They are almost from the Nordic peoples and used by the greatest pillars of the middle ages . We are of course talking about the Vikings , those great sailors, merchants and warriors of the North . Let’s do a little history , they are the creators of regions/states in Normandy , Sicily and Russia. Their rule ceased in the mid-11th century after the Scandinavians decided to make the monarchical powers centralizing. That the religion changed and was based on Christianity. The Vikings were a very active people, they practiced hunting , agriculture being great fighters . That’s why Viking knives were an essential part of their daily lives in addition to Vikings axes very well known. The knife takes the codes of a sword with a blade incurved and smaller. Historic Viking knives were sometimes used for knife throwing like axe throwing. You’ll find a set of Viking knives each more elegant than the last on our store.

The blade has a full tang and a flat edge but with a twist. It’s sharpened to a 34-degree edge except for the two inches closest to the hilt. That small section is sharpened to a finer 25-degree edge for more meticulous, precise knifework. Direct from the Finnish brand Terävä, the Skrama is a rugged bush knife great for chopping, slicing, and building shelters in the outdoors. The 9.4-inch blade is made from 80CrV2 steel with a 59 HRC. It comes married to a textured rubber handle for easy grip in any weather conditions.I have made a small batch of these knives so the knife you receive may differ slightly from the ones pictured. For a budge knife, it does have some weak points. The two main ones are that the leather sheath may need some working in to be at its best, and the knife may need a sharpen out of the box to have a pristine edge. Other than that, this is a good knife for the money.

Smaller beard axes such as this Danish hand axe had evolved from Francisca and served the Huscarls primarily as devastating throwing axes, but were also used in close combat. A distinctive feature is the relatively long blade cutting, which tapers sharply towards the shaft. The blade encloses the shaft made of wood and is riveted to it. The shaft is largely straight but is widened at the lower end towards the blade, which improves the handling discreetly. Their personal knife was called the seax and it never left their side because it was their version of an EDC,” begins Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives, Inc. “The knife was tasked with a myriad of chores, from skinning a freshly taken deer to cutting up the turnips they grubbed out of the ground with the same knife.” The folding Emerson Knives Seax puts a modern twist on this age-old blade design. (Image via Emerson Knives) Hand forged from EN9 (1050) that are the offcuts from my bladesmithing classes and axe making . This blade is differentially hardened and around 4.4 inches long and the handle is forged to a curve to fit the hand. These knives are left with a polished forged finish. Deeply Rooted In Scandinavian History, The Seax, AKA “Scramasax” Or “Sax,” Was The Blade Shape Of Choice For The Much-Feared And Revered Vikings.

The sax, seax, saxmes, seaxe or scramasax was an early medieval stab and melee weapon used by the Vikings and the Germanic tribes such as the Alamans and Langobards. The Vikings used their seaxes in battle. Our saxes are both Germanic and Viking replicas. We have seaxes of different steel qualities and with different steel hardnesses. Some of our seaxes are made of damascus steel. This means that they consist of several folded layers to create a strong and artistic blade. Discover our medieval daggers and knives. Handmade daggers from top brands like Windlass, Deepeeka, Cold Steel. Our sharp daggers are based on real medieval knight daggers. Our blunt daggers are made for reenactment combat and martial arts. They are functional and often come with a leather sheath. These daggers are suitable for wearing to medieval fairs and festivals. This amazing seax is from the husband & wife duo of Nathaniel and Megan Everett at Lunar Light Forge in Akron, Ohio. We use several types of steel: spring steel, which is renowned for its outstanding hardness and flexibility, the carbon content of about 0.6 % and tool steel alloy with a carbon content around 0.8% provides great cutting power and resistance to wear.
