About this deal

Weighted blankets are used with older children and in very select settings for babies. A small study with continuously monitored neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) babies found that a weighted blanket may help those with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). With that in mind, parents should never put a baby to bed with a blanket, quilt, loose bedding, or other items that could cause harm. What the research says Keep crib clear of objects that may pose a suffocation hazard. Loose bedding, blankets, quilts, soft toys, stuffed animals, and toys should never be placed in a crib while baby is sleeping. This also includes pillows and bumper pads. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics says that “Infant sleep clothing is preferable to blankets and other coverings to keep the infant warm. A large percentage of infants who die of SIDS are found with their head covered by bedding. Therefore, no pillows, sheets, blankets, or any other items that could obstruct infant breathing or cause overheating should be in the bed.” The risks of sleep-related infant deaths are up to 67 times higher when sleeping with someone on a couch or soft armchair or cushion; and 10 times higher when sleeping with someone who is impaired because of fatigue or use of sedating medications or substances such as alcohol or illicit drugs; or is a smoker. Risks of sleeping on the same surface with someone else also increase 5-10 times when an infant is under four months of age; is sharing the surface with someone other than a parent; or is a pre-term or low-birthweight, regardless of other factors.

The fact is that you want your baby to be warm and comfortable all year long. But blankets just aren't a safe option to use when your baby isn't supervised. That's why a wearable blanket is what you'll want for your little one instead. We even lined up our favorites on this list here! The Difference Between a Wearable Blanket and Wearable Weighted Blanket Using the size guide as a starting point, you’ll want to know how much your baby weighs. You should not move up to the next size until your child has reached the minimum weight recommendation. So even if your baby is already 6 months, if they are not yet 15 pounds, you should keep them in the 0 - 6-month size until they do reach that weight. Weighted blankets are not safe for infants because regular blankets are not safe for infants; they are a suffocation hazard. Weighted blankets are even more dangerous as their added weight would make it harder for infants to pull the blanket away from their mouth and nose. However, they did find that both kids and parents favored the weighted blanket, with parents rating their child’s sleep as better when using a weighted blanket. They also reported that their children were calmer when using a weighted blanket. Jeanne Beacom, BabyCenter's Senior Campaign Reporting Manager, can attest to its longevity. She has used the Woolino for over a year with great success and plans to keep using it. She’s even bought the version sized for children age 2-4. There's also a big kid version for ages 4-6, which parents of older children appreciate, since many sleep bags are not available above a size 2.Several organizations including the AAP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, educate parents on best sleep practices. To keep your baby safe while they sleep, follow these tips and recommendations for sleep safety and good sleep practices. Consider the room temperature and how many layers you need. Generally, you’ll want to dress your baby in the same amount of layers that you’d have for sleep (or maybe one additional layer if you feel it’s needed). Breastfeeding reduces the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, and while any human milk feeding is more protective than none, 2 months of feeding at least partial human milk feeding has been demonstrated to significantly lower the risk of sleep-related deaths. The AAP recommends exclusive human milk feeding to 6 months, with continuation of human milk feeding for 1 year or longer as mutually desired by parent and infant. We only use the Kyte one since buying it finally! Worth the money. It is so soft and way more blanket like than some of the ones I’ve tried. My baby loves it!" Crafted from 100% cotton and with a TOG rating of 0.5, these wearable blankets offer comfortable year-round temperatures and have adjustable snaps for baby's shoulders which allow them to grow with your baby— Diaper changes are made easy with the 2-way zipper system, allowing for maximum practicality and convenience.

It’s worth highlighting the most important sleep tips for babies. These AAP recommendations are essential for the safety of all infants. Moon is chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics' task force on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which last year said weighted swaddles are "not safe" and recommended against using them and other weighted infant sleep products. A spokesperson for the CPSC said it was aware of the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendations from last year and that it appreciated "the safe sleep guidance these doctors are providing." The sleep bag does have one downside: Woolino recommends hanging to dry, or tumble drying on a "no heat" or "air dry" setting. Jeanne says her mom accidentally dried one in her dryer on a standard setting, and it shrank slightly, but she was able to stretch it out to its regular size the next time it was wet. Some are filled with poly beads while others are filled with glass beads or plastic pellets – both materials provide even weight distribution when used correctly within the product design. The updated recommendations closely follow a new federal law that bans the sale of crib bumpers and infant sleepers with an incline greater than 10 degrees, new federal standards for infant sleep products set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which went into effect last week, and a new safety commission standard for crib mattresses and play yards, which goes into effect this fall. For safety and secure sleeping, trust in the wisdom of DREAMLAND BABY’s Transition Swaddles – helping babies (and their parents!) rest peacefully through those overnight feedings and growth spurts! It’s essential for families and pediatricians to partner with each other, to build trust and have thoughtful conversations about how to keep children safe by lowering risks,” said Rebecca Carlin, MD, FAAP, who co-authored the statement and technical report. “We know that many parents choose to share a bed with a child, for instance, perhaps to help with breastfeeding or because of a cultural preference or a belief that it is safe.
