About this deal

The ‘History’ tab allows you to scroll through your workout history, with swathes of statistics to pore over. If you want toexport this data, you can either share a stylised image of your running route overlaid with a few key stats, or – thanks to anupdate – link the app with Strava, Apple Health or Google Fit. This connectivity introduces a welcome dose of flexibility, butthose invested in alternative workout platforms, such as MapMyRun or RunKeeper, will still find it restrictive Verdict It is equipped with functions that are useful for working out, including an optical heart rate sensor, a step-count accelerometer, and sensors that detect orientation, altitude/atmospheric pressure, and temperature. The GPS function can also measure running distance, speed, pace, etc. It also supports the measurement of VO2 max, which measures cardiorespiratory fitness, and can be used as an index for improving endurance when running, etc.

The GBD-H1000 doesn’t feature a touchscreen, so all interactions are relegated to five physical buttons that encompass the watch. These buttons are quite large and feature tactile grips of their own. It’s unlike anything you’d expect to see on a typical smartwatch and so there’s a definite learning curve to using this layout, but after some time with the device it becomes easy enough to wrap your head around. There’s a steep learning curve for the watch’s proprietary OS, too. With six faces and seven mode screens to delve through, it takes time to understand the role of each button, which can change depending on the mode. After several weeks of testing, certain inputs still felt unintuitive – and it’s telling that the user manual requires a flow chart to illustrate how to navigate the interface. The watch’s training facilities are at best a mixed bag. While the app lets you create a training plan (based on improving your overall fitness or building to a specific distance or race), the only part of the workouts that are sent to the watch itself are the target heart rate for each session; you have to memorise any intervals, target distances or times. The challenge of essentially offering two different software approaches is an interesting one and it's been done with mixed results on Wear OS watches. The maps are nicely detailed and you can pinch and zoom into areas. When you do that, there's a little bit of a delay as it readjusts the level of information but you're essentially getting a nice Google Maps experience on a watch here.Even if Casio has used the 2020-21 SnapDragon 4100/+ series of GNSS chipsets for Wear OS, then these WILL perform better than all Wear OS devices that have come before but we are talking 10-20% better battery life from that chip. We’ve also recently answered a couple of the frequently asked questions when it comes to GPS watches including ‘ Do GPS watches need the internet?’ and how to use GPS for hiking navigation. The final piece in the puzzle is the ability to sync this data with third party services, which currently is not possible. That will change soon: Casio is promising to add Strava and Google Fit connectivity in a few weeks – but it needs to be offering more than this. How accurate is it? Starting a workout from the Wear OS menu will not register it in the Casio Move app, only in the Google Fit app. But if you start a workout from the Casio workout menu, data will be transferred over to the Google Fit app, as long as the Casio Move app is synchronised with the Google Fit app. Specijalni senzor meri atmosferski pritisak (u rangu 260/1100 hPa) i prikazuje vrednost u formi simbola, što omogućava ranu detekciju vremenskih trendova.

Is this a useful feature? I wasn't completely sold on this, but I guess Casio at least tried to offer something extra here, so I let them off the hook this time. The GPS chip supports GPS+GLONASS and this to me suggests it’s either an old chipset or one that Casio designed themselves. With the ProTrek watches, Casio claimed to me that the GNSS chipset was made by Casio and not one of the usual SnapDragon models, so it’s a reasonable assumption that they are still using that chip or a newer variant. I doubt that a Casio-designed chip is as power-efficient as the Sony model(s) in wide usage elsewhere in the smartwatch industry and perhaps also not as good as the SnapDragon chipset which has built-in GNSS capability. Optički senzor na poleđini sata meri otkucaje srca sa članka koristeći LED diode. Izmerene vrednosti se prikazuju na satu. In theory, the GBD-H1000 can determine VO2 max, training status, training load, recovery time, training effect and calories burned during training using an algorithm from Firstbeat Technologies, the same tech used in the Garmin Quantix 6, Montblanc Summit 2, Huawei Watch GT 2e and more. In reality, since the heart rate sensor is a bit off, the suggestions about most of those stats are rough estimates at best. Minimum heart rate/maximum heart rate; heart rate graph display (when heart rate measurement is continuously ON)

Model Comparison

The PRO-TREKs didn’t quite have the aesthetics for my liking but many of you LOVE these robust watches. The physical specs of the earlier watches were great and the default spec of the software that comes with every Wear OS smartwatch is also usually great. However, most Wear OS watches also come with an additional manufacturer’s app both for the watch and for your smartphone. It was this custom software that was previously one of Casio’s problems…it was buggy and not well thought-through from a design perspective. Interval measurement (up to 5 timers); measuring unit: 1 second; countdown range: 60 minutes; countdown start time setting range: 1 second to 60 minutes; 1-second accuracy; auto-repeat

Casio has never been afraid to throw on plenty of its own software and on this smartwatch it's clearly tried to separate it from the standard Wear software to let you dip into the Google features it can't offer. We'd have almost preferred if it tried to do a better job of merging the two, but maybe keeping things separate was the way to go. You can also access tide graphs, times of sunrise/sunset and more using the Casio G-SQUAD PRO GSW-H1000. Casio G-SQUAD PRO GSW-H1000: sensors and accuracyAnd because the watch can be charged via the sun’s rays, battery drain that was already pretty minimal is barely noticeable on anything but the longest of runs.
