About this deal

Juicy tropical fruit notes, and hoppy aromas of mango and pineapple guide you towards explosive flavour, flashes of delicate citrus highlights and refreshing balanced bitterness. Siren's epiphany of a session beer drinks with a pillowy soft mouthfeel and pours with a beautiful light haze. For now, we still allow bars to choose from the two options, but we encourage the Gluten Free listing as a testament to what truly is a first class Gluten Free beer, through and through. We thank every single bar, club, pub, venue and each and every one of you for grabbing a Lumina. Gluten Free So, how about that? This project has tested us as a brewery, but in doing so has shown us just how smart, committed and determined our team is. (To give it some context, we also had our Anniversary releases to work on, plus the installation of a new kegging line, right in the middle of all this.) We’re hugely grateful to Beer52 for the opportunity to do this. It’s been a completely unique opportunity for a brewery of our small size to work on something this big, with beers that will go so far. To be given the trust to make these beers in our own way is a big compliment. Thanks to everyone involved, and in particular the collaborating breweries who were so generous with their time and insight for this project.

The best stouts and dark beers

The big hitter of the box, Double Digits is a dank and delicious Double IPA. It’s a great example of how hop combinations can be put together, as Strata and Citra bring the fruit punch, Hallertau Blanc adds mid-notes and depth with light grape and gooseberry, Mosaic helps with tropical tones and dank aromas, while Chinook gives the beer the piney ‘edge’ that we’re looking for. It’s a challenge to make sure these beers aren’t too sweet, so the hops are crucial in that, with enough bitterness to balance things out against the malts and alcohol. We’re delighted with it, and what a pleasure to work with Protokoll in Berlin, who’s bar we’ve been long time fans of. Lumina helps to prove that it's definitely not the same for beer. In fact, when launched we provided bars with the option of kegs badges - one that said "Gluten Free Session IPA" and one that said "Session IPA". Some people were deterred by the GF classification. Bags of tropical fruit aromas, pineapple, guava tangerine and passion fruit are balanced with a chewy, honeyed malt character. Lumina joins a whole host of other IPAs Siren makes, including Sound Wave IPA, Futurist (another gluten-free IPA that is in our best gluten-free beers list) and its brut IPA, On The Bubble.

Lumina, however, started life long before that blog. It was in 2019 that we identified a gap between 3.6% Yu Lu and 5.6% Soundwave. Our ever popular rotational hop series, “Suspended in…” had been gracing keg and cask pumps for some time and we wanted something like that in the flagship lineup. Beyond the numbers, it’s a journey through Siren past and present. The team at Ferment have put together a beautiful accompanying magazine, rich with behind the scenes access and interviews with collaborating breweries. The collaborations extend beyond the beer, with our design direction also coming from those breweries, which we think look incredible all together. We’ve been able to work with old friends (including ex-Head Brewers), new acquaintances and a couple of breweries who for some reason we’ve never worked with before, but found the perfect excuse here. So broadly, Lumina draws inspiration from the celestial world. As the stars have fascinated, inspired and guided us throughout the ages, we designed this beer to be the shining light of our flagship range that you can always look towards.” Our Best Bitter is pretty hard to come by these days. It’s largely reserved for cask, naturally, with our very own George & Dragon pub being top of the list for takers. We enjoy it in cans a lot though, not least because dosing with nitrogen actually gives it a profile which is not dissimilar to drinking the beer on cask in your local pub. It’s smooth, slightly creamy, and the muted carbonation somehow gives the roasted malts space to open up. The secret ingredient is a touch of Cascade in the dry hop. Adry-hopof Azacca, Mosaic, Ekuanot and Hallertau Blanc is the final touch. Hopping this late in the process is the reason the aroma shoots out of the can so immediately, bursting with mango, pineapple, and orangey notes. The LaunchSiren has revealed its latest craft beer creation, Siren Lumina - a session ale that it hopes will leave you starry eyed. We decided that collaboration would be key, as it always has been to us over the 10 years, but before long it became clear just how mammoth this task was. Our Beer52 Anniversary Box contains no fewer than 16 different beers, with 13 of them collaborations. Bitter, a British style of pale ale, comes in a huge variety of colours, types and strengths from 3% to 7% ABV. Sub-types include light ale (low alcohol bitter, often bottled), session bitter (up to 4.1%; includes IPA), best or special (strength between 4.2% and 4.7%), premium or strong (4.8% or over) and golden ale (summer ale). Porter Lumina is a beer influenced by modern tastes as much as it aims to inspire them. Azacca, Mosaic, Ekuanot, Hallertau Blanc and Chinook hops combine so in drinking there’s a welcome edge of pine and grapefruit flavour to the overall juicy profile. The mouthfeel is soft with layers of oats (making up around 15% of the grist) helping this, along with some nice body. There’s just enough perceived bitterness there to freshen up the palate and get you ready for the next sip. It’s out most universal beer - being super drinkable, gluten-free and vegan friendly.

Lumina is an epiphany moment for Siren, a coming together of experience, experimentation and evolution to create our most accessible session beer ever, with poise and adventure of universal appeal. It’s that feeling of epiphany that first sparked the ‘energy’ of this design. A central burning energy source emanates movement across the canvas, with themes of luminosity and navigation weaving in and out of the sky. It’s sometimes hard to get excited about lower-strength beers, but this is the realm in which a brewery’s quality shines through. Unlike double IPAs or imperial stouts, there’s no decadent sweetness or mouth-coating hoppiness to hide behind with a drink like this. Any imperfection is easy to identify, and will be instantly pounced upon by the most snobbish of Untappd-dwelling beer fiends. But with Lumina there are no such imperfections to speak of.The green dream of hyper juicy and resinous hops Columbus, Mosaic, Simcoe and Idaho 7 uniting in a super smashable pale ale. This is a refreshing, crisp and light yellow lager with a bitter, hoppy flavour. Pilsner originated in the Czech Republic and tends to be light in colour, ranging from light straw to golden, with strong hoppy, spicy and floral flavours. Some of the most iconic beers derive from the pilsner style, including Budweiser. Wheat beer A lot of people might hear "Gluten Free" and think of things like Gluten Free bread. Whilst there's some really good GF bread available, in general it can be a bit of a let down compared to "standard" bread. Across all formats, Lumina hasbeen served in1014 individual accounts, with Fullers Pub Co being the biggest adopter, closely followed by Frontier Pub Co. Our top independent Lumina retailer by volune is the amazing Trekkers bar in Chesham. For some time we'd been brewing a series of Hazy Pale Ales on a regular basis, which were enjoyed in keg and cask formats only. the 'Suspended in...' series focussed on a different hop for each brew. These beers were the perfect vehicle to experiment with a variety of hops and their impacts on a lower ABV beer. Refractions
