About this deal

If you become pregnant while using Scholl Verruca Removal System, speak to your doctor as soon as possible. Other safety information

Your child’s doctor may also freeze the verruca so that it falls off a few weeks later. Sometimes this can take a few sessions. Verrucas often clear up by themselves but treatment is the preferred option if the verruca is embarrassing, painful or causing a great deal of distress. See your GP if your verruca bleeds, has changed size or shape or you have a weakened immune system. Your dermatologist may suggest various different options for wart removal. These include stronger medications that you either take by mouth, apply to your skin or are injected into the wart. There is no need to treat warts if they are not causing you any problems. Half the number of children with warts will find they have disappeared within a year without any treatment. Two-thirds will have gone within two years. Sometimes warts last longer, particularly in adults or if you have a weakened immune system (immunosuppressed), in which cases warts may persist for many years.Nonetheless, it's important to familiarise with the side effects listed in the patient information leaflet provided with your medicine. Your GP may sometimes refer you to a dermatologist or specialist skin clinic for treatment. This might be if you have large areas of skin affected, warts on your face or a weakened immune system. If the surrounding skin does become sore, stop the treatment for a few days until it settles. Then re-start treatment. There is also a small risk that you may get a skin allergy to the treatment. If this occurs, the surrounding skin becomes red and itchy.

This involves using a toxic substance, which contains a chemical such as formaldehyde, on the verruca. The chemical kills the virus infected skin cells and the verruca. Verruca plaster Duct tape (available online or from DIY shops) - while there is not a lot of evidence to support the use of using duct tape on its own, it might still be well worth trying, especially in children. The wart/s should be covered with duct tape for six days; if the tape falls off it should be replaced with a fresh piece. The tape should then be removed and the affected area soaked in luke-warm water and the wart pared down to remove any dead skin cells. The wart should then be left uncovered overnight and the duct tape reapplied once again in the morning. This process can be continued for up to two months. Duct tape might be more effective if a salicylic acid paint or gel is first applied to the wart before then covering in duct tape If you have any concerns about any of the information presented in the leaflet, discuss them with our online medical team or speak to a pharmacist. Who should not use Scholl Verruca Removal System?Again, the studies done on freezing treatment vary considerably in their results. Some seem to show it is more effective than salicylic acid; others show it does not have any convincing benefit. It is certainly more expensive than salicylic acid, however. Therefore many NHS services, such as some GP practices, no longer offer it as an option. This is because salicylic acid is cheaper and the evidence that it works is more convincing. This is found in many over the counter remedies such as gels, creams and plasters. It is effective at treating verrucas but it can destroy healthy tissue as well as the infected area. So protect the areas of skin surrounding the verruca with a barrier cream or corn plaster. Before applying the salicylic acid, rub off the dead tissue from the top of the wart, with an emery file (or similar).

You need to apply the salicylic acid each day for up to three months. Perseverance is important; if treatment is not continued it is unlikely to work. The paint /gel should be applied carefully to the wart and not the surrounding normal skin. If the wart becomes too sore treatment should be stopped for a few days, and then started again. Applying Vaseline to protect the skin surrounding a wart before applying the salicylic acid may reduce the likelihood of the skin becoming sore Verrucas, like most warts, are due to a viral infection of the growing layers of the skin. They get in when the skin is injured in some way. The majority of skin specialists are not in favour of treating verrucas. Many feel that because the virus is so widespread, it’s better to spread it as much as possible and as early as possible in the lives of children. There are freezing treatments available over the counter, which you can apply yourself. However, these cannot provide such a cold freeze as liquid nitrogen. They are probably less effective, although again the results of studies are not totally clear. Combined treatmentThis is a freezing process in which liquid nitrogen is sprayed onto the verruca which kills the infected skin cells. This forms a blister which then dries out and falls off. Chemical treatment If you experience any side effects to Scholl Verruca Removal System, regardless of whether they are listed in the patient information leaflet, inform your doctor or speak to a pharmacist. If you use nail files or pumice stones on your wart or verruca, don’t share these or use on other areas of your skin. You should not apply salicylic acid to the face because of the risk of skin irritation which may cause scarring.
