One notable aspect of this cool box is its cooling and heating capacities, able to maintain temperatures between 15-18°C below ambient temperature for cooling and 50-65°C for heating. The long-lasting brushless motor (30,000 hours) ensures that this electric cool box will continue to perform for years to come. The ECO Deep Extreme has several different capacity options in the range. The coolers start at a ‘car-friendly’ 26 litre capacity up to our favourite in the range shown above – the 45 litre giant which has its own carry handle and wheels to help move it around. We’ll concentrate on that one for this review.On its warming and cooling capabilities, the lowest the fridge can go is 3°C, while the highest is 65°C. It’s worth mentioning the noise the fridge makes too – it doesn’t! It is almost completely silent which can be a godsend when it’s running in your tent and you’re trying to sleep. Outwell have taken particular care with antimicrobial coatings on the EcoCool, and in fact it has been treated with a biocidal glass coating inside – this is a special glass which has bug-killing properties and is a real selling point in our view. Hot to trot? The handle integrated into the design makes it easy to transport the electric cool box to your desired location, providing easy access to its contents during your trip. The hygienic wipe-clean exterior and interior make it simple to keep your cool box maintained and spotless, ensuring that your food and drinks remain sanitary and safe for consumption. The size of the electric cool box, measured in litres, should be suitable for the amount of goods you plan to store and transport. As a rule of thumb, look for a unit that can accommodate the supplies needed for the duration of your intended trips. Furthermore, consider the different types of power sources available – 12V DC (car cigarette lighter), 230V AC (mains electricity), or both. Depending on your planned usage, having a versatile power source can make all the difference.
Dimensions are reasonably compact at 26.9 (W) x 32.2(D) x 38(H) cm, and we found this an excellent size for a few nights away in our tent. It’s a great option for a mini-break or an afternoon retreat as it is small enough to be easily carried using the ergonomic handle on top. However, it’s probably more of a fridge than a coolbox to take picnicing – just bear this in mind! We will make every effort to replace limited edition or discontinued products but cannot guarantee their availability for replacement. Any limited edition or discontinued product still under its applicable warranty that cannot be replaced with an identical product will be replaced with the equivalent model based on availability. The size of the EcoCool is 52 x 32 x 43 cm and it weighs around 8kg which is fairly substantial. There is a great swing handle for lifting the box and it does not struggle with a fully laden fridge. Insulation: From our testing, not all electric cool boxes can reliably keep food and drinks sufficiently chilled if it’s warm outside. This can be due to a puny fan or, more often poor insulation.
Key features
Despite being a decent-sized cool box (storage volume measures 63 x 51 x 42cm), the Eco Deep is portable enough to move around when required. Weight is a fairly hefty 17kg, but the presence of a decent folding handle and wheels makes transport simple and efficient.
