About this deal

The switch has a 30 minute delay, so it will turn off only if the wind has been below threshold for 30 minutes (because repeated triggers will reset the timer). When it turns off the Fountain is restored IF the day and presence conditions are still valid. Keep in mind that you can’t yet watch Freeview on an Apple TV, but you’ll be able to install broadcaster apps such as BBC iPlayer to watch live TV channels. I really like the design of these, but whether that’s enough for me to ignore the paltry battery life, despite CR2032 batteries being cheap, is a tough call. I already have many Zigbee door sensors, and a few Aqara hubs, so it’s not as though I’m short of sensors right now. Having said that, the day before I wrote this review, half my WiFi network went down (the 2.4GHz band strangely enough), and as a result, none of my Aqara devices would work, due to the Aqara hub not being able to connect to my Home Hub (Apple TV) via the network. The VS1 and some other Bluetooth devices (Eve Motion, Eve Door, Eve Room, Onvis Motion Sensor, and more…) were totally unaffected. That did make me think… One of the best features of the Onvis CT3 door/window sensor is its ability to integrate with other HomeKit-enabled accessories to create powerful automations. Here’s how to get started building automations using this device:

Once you have the two Eve Door & Window pieces installed, you can add the accessory to HomeKit by scanning the QR code on the sensor module with your iPhone’s camera; doing so will jump you directly to the Apple Home app, where you can group the sensor with other HomeKit devices in a given room. In my case, I added the sensor to the kitchen. Note: This will always set the target temperature to 1 degree above the inside temperature displayed on your Hive thermostat. Set up the automation: After building up your automation, be sure to test it to ensure that it’s working as expected. If it’s not working correctly, you can refine the automation by adjusting the trigger, action, or conditions. Finally, press “done,” and the automation is ready to go. This door window alarm comes with strong adhesive tape, making it easy to install. The alarm system magnet should be kept within 8mm of the host to ensure correct installation. The device will last 10 years without needing to change the battery, this is great news if you’ve ever been woken up by a smoke detector low on battery. There are pros and cons, but we use it ourselves for its straightforward integration with Apple gizmos. The platform is baked into the phone you already own, so it couldn’t be easier to get started. You can simply add items like smart light bulbs or plugs to your home setup, and include a smart speaker through Apple’s HomePod or a streaming device like the Apple TV. Either of these can act as a “home hub”, enabling you to command and automate your home while you’re away. So if the wind is over a certain speed, IFTTT flips a Homebridge dummy switch. The event triggers an action to turn off the fountain (I also set a particular lamp to Yellow so I know what’s happened). The Keurig K-Mini single serve coffee maker is a stylish coffee maker that looks good in any kitchen or break room. It suits smaller spaces particularly well, as it’s less than five inches wide. Despite its smaller size, it’s still fully capable. It can brew any cup size between 6-12 ounces, and it’s able to brew coffee, tea, cocoa, and even iced beverages. The Keurig K-Mini single serve coffee maker has easy cord storage for transport and tidying up your countertop after use, and an energy efficiency feature turns the coffee maker off automatically 90 seconds after your last brew. The Netatmo Smoke Alarm is the only device I came across that’s available in the UK and directly supports HomeKit. It doesn’t connect directly to a HomePod, you’ll need to connect it to your Wi-Fi router and set it up with the native app before adding it to HomeKit. After you’ve connected your Hive devices to HomeKit, you’ll be able to control them simply by asking Siri, just like if you were talking to another person.

We can do this in HomeKit by creating multiple automations off the same trigger and use the conditions to determine which path to take. The toggle switch example uses this approach in a simple way, but you can build up the conditions to make it “smarter”. There are both wired and battery-powered devices, however, only the wired doorbell currently supports HomeKit. Keep in mind that it still doesn’t support HomeKit Secure Video, however, there aren’t any video doorbells in the UK that support this just yet. Here is a good example of more complex logic using multiple automations that was also featured on LeadsRating.com. I have an outdoor water feature that is fully automated through presence and time conditions via an Eve Energy smart plug. This works well as it only turns it on during the day when someone is home and turns it off as required. That’s the simple way to do it, and some more advanced automation platforms support that kind of rule structure. HomeKit absolutely does not. But we can achieve the same result with multiple HomeKit automations like this:The Apple TV comes in a HD or 4K version, I’d recommend going for the 4K version if you want to future-proof your setup. The TV can be voice-controlled via the Siri button on the remote. won’t understand how to boost your heating. However, you can set up a ‘boost’ command using Siri Shortcuts. Once you’ve done this, it will work alongside HomeKit. One important distinction between the apps here, Eve and Home+ need ALL conditions to be met, where Controller allows you to specify ANY or ALL.

Choose a room: After adding the accessory, you’ll need to choose a room for it to be associated with. This will help you easily identify the sensor in your Home app and use it to trigger automations. I could turn them on when the door opens, but that would turn on all the lights when I’m going into the house as well, which is pointless. Instead, I pair that with the motion sensor so it only turns them on when I open the door from the inside, along with a Turn Off time out. Open door alerts So, over a 4-year period, the VS1 is still better value for money, but only if you don’t already have an Aqara hub, which you may have already bought for other sensors previously. Take the price of the hub out of the equations above, and it’s a different story. My recommendation is the HomePod Mini (especially since Apple announced in 2021 that they were discontinuing the flagship HomePod). It’s also the only HomeKit hub that supports Thread. Apple TV can also act as a HomeKit hub and you can use the Apple TV to trigger scenes. However, you can’t create new scenes or add accessories as there’s no Home app for the Apple TV just yet.

Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. To use the Home app on Mac, update your Mac to the latest version of macOS. You can customize notifications for your HomeKit or Matter accessories to alert you at specific times and based on who's present in your home. Choose an accessory automation: You’ll now want to select “do you want this trigger to occur when it opens or closes” and based on either a time or people arriving/leaving. To receive notifications for your HomeKit and Matter accessories when you're not at home, set up a home hub. The Homepod Mini might be small in size, but it delivers crisp audio that’s perfect for day-to-day listening, and with 360-degree sound, it fills the room. You can also pair two HomePod Mini’s for left-right audio.
