About this deal

There just wasn't much space and room for mental health struggles with anxiety in the culture I grew up in. I spent most of my early teenager years to early adulthood in a more sophisticated version of hiding anxiety.” – Curtis Chang I couldn’t. I had to bowdlerize the Bible to make it accessible and acceptable to kids. At what age would they be ready to hear the story unexpurgated? More importantly, at what age would I be able to tell the story in its full Christological significance? The truth is, the Bible is an adult book. Of necessity, we must distort it to teach it to children. If you give a kid a steady diet of pessimistic music and music that is cynical, they will look at life through the lens of cynicism and pessimism and of no hope. And if you give a child beauty, then they will look at life through the lens of art and wonder that we were all meant to view life.” - Eric Genuis I’m four months into researching it, and I went to a party with a friend,” Lloyd-Jones said. “A friend’s husband . . . told me the story of Martin Luther translating the Bible into German. He said Luther’s advice was not to go into the academy to listen to how the professors spoke; instead, go into a home and listen to a mother speaking to her children.”

She's five now. To this day my dad reads it to her in her homeschooling and she devours it in some of her downtime. I've read through it once myself. We even talk about it at times. Lloyd-Jones credits much of the book’s success to the illustrator, whose depictions of Jesus are “fresh and multiracial and so perfect.” The next question we should ask ourselves then is what evidence has this person given to support his or her claim? Okay, so first we need to recognize what is the claim. Then once we recognize what that claim is, then we need to ask ourselves, what evidence has this person given in support of his or her claim? Sometimes we may find that someone has not given any evidence in support of their claim, they've just made an assertion without any evidence. But in the times that someone has given evidence, the next question we need to ask ourselves is, do I think that this evidence is sufficient for supporting the claim? Now, sometimes if someone hasn't given any evidence, then it's like, well, no, there's no evidence here to support this claim, so I can't believe this claim. Other times we may say, yes, I think you know that this person has fairly represented the evidence for his or her claim, and I think it's proving that the claim is true. She also admired the way Keller “never uses jargon, but always finds a way to say it in a different way, and always uses metaphor. In my business, that’s the way you get truth across.”

Starting with a simple paraphrase of Psalm 19: "The Heavens are singing about how great God is…" children – and grown ups, begin a colourful adventure in words and pictures through the stories of The Old Testament, to the birth of the baby at the centre of it all, and on through the parables, miracles and wonders of the New. Woven throughout, and connecting each and every story, is the softly whispered name of Jesus. Melina Luna Smith believes that art is a powerful tool that can open the door to the heart and allow kids to connect with stories from the Bible in a fun and engaging way. She has dedicated her creative skills to interactively recreating Bible stories for children through her company, Storymakers. Melina shares with us some of her imaginative ways to retell God’s stories and connect with our kids (or adult friends!) about faith. The Jesus Storybook Bible – now with British (rather than US) English spellings and sentences, is just such a reason for anyone who cares about nurturing reading and faith in primary school age children to get excited. While children from about 6 and above will be able to read the short, thoughtfully laid out and easy to follow stories for themselves, even children as young as 4 will love to have the 44 Old and New Testament tales read to them at bedtime and story-time. My most profound spiritual growth as a Christian has come not because I've gotten rid of my anxiety, but it's come through my anxiety.” – Curtis Chang I see kids who are virtually illiterate carrying your Bible around the school grounds every day and reading it every time they get a chance. Some of them had read it all the way through within a week of receiving it. Some of the older girls in the boarding house read it together with the younger girls every night before they go to bed. They come to school and love to tell me what they’ve been reading about and where they’re up to.

Did you ever wonder what Jacob’s face looked like the morning after his wedding night, when he woke up in bed with a different woman than the one he thought he had married — Leah instead of Rachel? Jago did, and what he imagined and drew made me laugh out loud. The Jesus Storybook Bible, which is often given at baby showers or baptisms, has a fascinating birth story of its own. Another debate came over the illustrator. Lloyd-Jones, who majored in art history and worked with illustrators in previous jobs, had a vision for how the book needed to look. Trusted and treasured for over a decade,?The Jesus Storybook Bible?has been introducing children to God’s wonderful story, and the Savior at the center of that story.? With over 3 million copies sold,?The Jesus Storybook Bible?is the quintessential book for parents, grandparents, pastors, and anyone else who wants to share God’s??Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love?with children.

Having a narrator also let her end each story with a glimpse of what is to come (“I love cliffhangers”). Jago’s drawings of the scene moved me to tears. I can only imagine what it will be like to sit with the book open to this scene, a child at my side, and try to read it aloud. The Jesus Storybook Bible is, in my opinion, one of the best resources available to help both children and adults see the Jesus-centered story line of the Bible.' Tullian Tchividjian, Senior Pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church PCA, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Is beautifully written by?New York Times?bestselling author Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by award-winning artist Jago This idea of Thanksgiving, thankfulness, is really interesting to me. And within our own little family, every night around the dinner table, we really make a concerted effort to eat meals together as a family every night. And one of the things we do is go around and ask our kids and we share as well, about what we're grateful for on that day. And it is interesting to work hard to think about, What are the things that you're most grateful for? Not just what happened or what made you feel good, but what are you actually grateful for? And to be able to direct that gratitude to God is pretty special within my own life.” - Nathan Tasker
