About this deal

Lanzarote’s Montañas del Fuego spent six consecutive years erupting during the 18th century, destroying 26 villages and a third of the island’s best farmland. Now, the Timanfaya National Park is Lanzarote’s biggest tourist attraction. Dedicated buses snake among lava flows and up steep-sided craters, and guides demonstrate that although this volcanic landscape is classed as dormant, a chamber of boiling magma 4km below the surface will create a man-made geyser if a bottle of water is tipped into a fissure. More remote corners of the park can be explored by camel or on guided hikes — unescorted walks aren’t permitted, for your own safety. As well as learning lots of about the wine production on the island, we tasted the wines at three wineries. I thought there were some lovely white and sweet wines. My favourite wine was produced by El Grifo, one of the largest producers on the island, and one of the ten oldest wineries still making wine in Spain. A wine tour is one of the best things to do in Lanzarote for adults – I think I’d had a few by this point! As big wine drinkers, we were really keen to book a trip with Wine Tours Lanzarote. This tour company came highly recommended, and they didn’t disappoint! Over the course of three hours, our tour guide Anita took a small group of us to three local wineries. La Geria wine region in Lanzarote is a unique place to visit

There are some extra special features inside, including a concert space (yes, there’s a small auditorium inside the cave!) and a special mirror that will definitely surprise you! See nature and architecture meet at Jameos del Agua The location where the Foundation is now used to be Cesar Manrique's home for twenty years, between 1968 and 1988, and the house offers truly a unique experience, as it sits on a 30,000 sqm plot, and it combines modern elements of design with old traditional architecture, specific to Lanzarote. 29. Coastal walk between Puerto del Carmen and Puerto CaleroThe bathrooms were particularly cool in terms of their style and décor. I also really enjoyed seeing the separate studio where he painted, and the pool area shaded by palm trees. Play dinosaur themed crazy golf If you want to catch a more modern and metropolitan side of Lanzarote then visit Arrecife, the island's capital. Here you will find a lively port city, shaped both by its seafaring past and its current, rapid regeneration. So, where are we? Which resort will you choose for your holiday? It’s a tough choice, but if we had to put it into words we’d say: Stumble on restaurants serving fresh fish and papas arrugadas — potatoes boiled in heavily salted water

While Tenerife’s drysouthern strip is its tourist epicentre - a string of resorts, restaurants, water parks and bars beloved by Brits - most of the island’s attractions lie beyond this entertainment enclave. Like most purpose built resorts, there is no shortage of shops aimed at the tourist sector, with plenty of jewellers, discount electrical stores and general gift shops, with most budgets and tastes being catered for. Though small in size, La Gomera is big on delivering food and drink specialties, such as almogrote, a spicy cheese paste. To wash it down, there’s lots of local wine to choose from, orronmielliqueur (literally, rum honey). While Canarian rum is popular on all the islands, this is a La Gomera speciality. As is guarapo - a honey-like syrup made from the heated sap of Canarian palm trees. There are a few popular markets that take place each week in Lanzarote. Haria is a cute town, with a small centre and a few restaurants. It’s also where you’ll find César Manrique’s former home. Located in the valley of 1,000 palms, Haria has much to offer the visitor who wants to see a real slice of Lanzarote. I met a Lanzarote local in London just before our trip. She said she lived in Punta Mujeres and we simply had to visit. It’s a traditional fishing village, so not particularly touristy… which when you see it might surprise you! Punta Mujeres is home to beautiful natural pools with crystal clear water
