The Nokia X20 would be a fine phone for its price, if it wasn’t for how competitive the premium-mid-range market segment has become - as it stands, the phone doesn’t have the features or specs to really compete with its rivals. The Nokia X20 went on sale in May 2021, at least in the UK, though we know the phone will be available in the US at some point too. On another damp note, the Nokia X20’s screen is a bit inconsistent when it comes to colour accuracy. With an average Delta E of 3.69 in my tests, the phone’s IPS panel was all over the place, with oversaturated dark blue and green tones, and dull-looking reds. The unique gel material used has a non-slip coating that provides you with extra grip for your phone, which minimises the chance of dropping your device - meaning this case is professional enough for work and sporty enough for play.

The test included active usage of a device for 5 hours per day with a new battery. Usage included e.g. gaming, video streaming, calling, sending sms, browsing and using apps (such as social media, news, navigation and music). The test was conducted with normal device settings in a lit indoor environment. The device was left on standby overnight. With it you get one cable with 3 different attachments. This means that you need fewer overall cables for your products. The device is less suitable for those who want a light and handy smartphone. Nokia's X20 simply has too much screen space for that and is quite heavy. The IPS screen does not offer accurate colors and is also quite low in contrast, so fans of OLED displays will probably turn away. Huge numbers of mobile products now use micro USB cables to charge and synchronise with computers or base stations. Not just smartphones and tablets, but also video game controllers, TV streaming dongles and GPS units.
Looking at the model number of the SoC, one might suspect bad things: After all, the Snapdragon 4 series was previously intended more for entry-level devices. But the new Snapdragon 480 5G does almost as good a job as the more expensive mid-range SoCs from last year. Thus, the currently most expensive of Nokia's new smartphones is on par with older devices, but there should be much faster devices for the same money in the near future. Thus, the decision for the SoC is not very forward-looking. Feel like you are in the front row at a performance with the incredible sound of the Galaxy Buds Live. Alas, the phone’s night mode is a bit on the weak side, with major loss of detail when the darkness starts to creep in, and a fair old sprinkling of visual noise. Likewise, the 5MP ultrawide camera isn’t great, with the end result looking more like a watercolour painting – and not the type you’d like to hang on your wall, either. If that’s you, it might be waiting for the Nokia X20 to hit the sales, though, so it hits that value-for-money proposition a little more. We would expect 4K video recording in this price range. If you really care about getting the newest version of Android as soon as possible, you might be able to ignore that verdict - HMD Global’s three-year promise is really great, as you’ll be receiving software updates far longer than most other phones. If you know your phones, you’ll know this combo is pretty similar to the Moto G9 Plus, but with a lower-res ultra-wide and higher-res selfie camera.
