About this deal

My favourite fibre is cotton. I love the stitch definition but it's not great for beginners so I would always advise a good quality acrylic to start with. Eighth round: Join cream and work 3ch, work 1tr in each st to corner, work 3tr in corner st. Repeat referring to the pattern. Sl st in beginning 3ch. That is such a hard question, but I think it is a traditional granny square. You can sit and watch the world go by without thinking too much and yet produce a beautiful piece of timeless crochet.

Repeat the skip next 2 sts and work 3tr in next st til you get to last 2 sts, skip 1 st, 1tr in last st. I always have lots of projects on the go at any one time. I especially love blankets and have baskets full of them for my grandchildren to snuggle under. Over the past year, I have also started to design and write my own crochet patterns. Second round: Work 1ch, then work 1dc in each st to the corner. Work 3dc in corner. Continue the round referring to the pattern. Work slip stitch in beginning of 1ch to complete the round. The fifth and final instalment of our very special crochet along 'The Sweetpea Blanket CAL' is here. Designed by Sue Rawlinson of Sweetpea Family Crochet this delightful spring blanket is made up of simple crochet stitches and is suitable for beginners.

I often crochet for my daughters, especially my eldest daughter Kate. She sends me images and says 'do you think you could make this?'. The funniest thing I have made for her was a leg warmer for a lamp! We’ve made a slight change, we’ve swapped Grass (825) for Fern Green (603) and Light Grey Mix (814) for Grey Marl (592).....delicious combination!

That's it for part one. We hope you enjoyed it and are looking forward to part two. It will be released on April 6 so stay tuned!

With 20 projects in total, you are spoilt for choice, and each gift set is worked in coordinated colorways and styles. Read about how Sue Rawlinson became such a successful crochet influencer and designer in our exclusive interview. I also wanted it to be a blanket that could easily be popped in the washing machine (an essential requirement for a child’s blanket). The yarn I chose was Stylecraft Special DK which is a favourite of mine. It is hard wearing and easy to wash. It also comes in a great array of colours and is very economical. Many of the smaller projects such as cozy beanie hats can be finished in an evening, so they are satisfying to make and even more satisfying to give away. Work a further 2 rows in dc but when you come to the end of your 4th row, start to work your last dc, but instead of using your current yarn to pull through the last 2 loops on your hook, change to Dark Pink, take the yarn round the hook and pull through the last 2 loops. This is a neater way of changing yarn and is used for every colour change throughout the pattern.
