About this deal

Adam just wanted to do something special for Livia on her birthday. He never imagined the horror his surprise would inflict on his entire family.. now he can’t fathom telling them the truth. So our story starts at the 40th birthday party of Livia. She’s finally having quality time with loved ones and being pampered by her friends and family. But Livia is not really happy. She’s keeping a secret from her husband about her daughter. Her husband’s favorite, Marnie, their daughter, betrayed their trust and Livia is not ready to face to her daughter who is still in Hong Kong for her education. This secret could change everything about their family dynamics, their social circles and close friendships. So even in my description you can see how there is a lot of build up to the climax of the novel. I think that is why I dropped it a star for the drawn outness of the situation and the "irrationality" of the main characters behavior. All of her "secrets" she tried to keep from being revealed were rather selfish , like not telling the wife of Justin he was sleeping around on work vacations? Really? Charlotte's over obsession with becomin g a mother causing her to act irrationally, and her boyfriend who ultimately lied to her for ten years, suddenly is all forgiven?

Mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Which relationships most closely mirror one another? How does Marnie’s relationship with Rob upend not only these close relationships, but the generational divide that’s necessarily a part of them?

Creative Play

The start of this book was quite slow, having to read through the traumatizing experience Charlotte feels not being able to become a mother. She discovers the why behind her difficulty (no spoiler here!) and treats herself to a girls vacation with her friend, Annabelle. Thanks to Netgalley, the author (B.A. Paris), and the publisher (St. Martin's Press) for a copy of the book. I’ve been saving,” she admitted. “For the party. I’ve been putting money by for years, not huge amounts, just a little each month. I’m sorry, I should have told you.” Why, if they are so embarrassed, did they act the way they did? That’s a one million dollar question. It can be it was an accident happening, but from time to time they know exactly what they are doing. And they just cannot control themselves. Repentance comes after sin.

Although I would classify this as a domestic drama versus a psychological thriller, which is what I would classify her earlier novels as, I appreciated it very much for what it is. I have mixed feelings about Zak (if you read it, it's obvious why) but I loved the others and the different POVs Roberts gives her readers really adds to the story as more information comes to light. The narrative alternates between the two as they struggle with their decisions to keep such important facts from one another. It was original, intense and hard-to-put-down, but slightly drawn out. I would have preferred a shorter book, with less repetition.

Games

We start out on Charlotte and Zac’s anniversary. They’re celebrating at an island themed bar and both feeling a little too old for it. They go home and Charlotte wakes up and nervously takes a pregnancy test. They’ve been trying for years and it just isn’t happening. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for sharing this heartwarming novel with me. Your kindness is appreciated!

One thing is for certain in this stellar read by Julia Roberts. Secrets find their way to the surface, especially when critical decisions could save a precious life. This story definitely has moral consequences facing the characters, but also has a very strong emotional edge that begs this story to work out for all involved, especially the innocent child in all of this. Charlotte is mad when she finds out her long time boyfriend has not been honest with her month after month when she hasn't been able to conceive. She gives him the boot because she can't forgive his betrayal. When on vacation with her bff, Annabelle, she has a drunken one night stand with a fellow guest that she'll never see again, or will she? a b Kit, Borys (January 6, 2010). "Vince Vaughn, Ron Howard eye cheating picture". The Hollywood Reporter. Reuters. Friends Rob and Jess are also part of one of the dilemmas, Rob did something unthinkable and Jess is recently diagnosed with MS. Nelson is Rob's brother and the best friend of Adam; Nelson is also married to Kirin. There was no tension, just irritation. This is a family drama, not a thriller, and a boring one at that. That said, I'm in the minority, and many people loved this book. So you might want to give it a try if the premise interests you. Ever since then, she and her loving husband Adam have anticipated this party so they can finally enjoy the long overdue celebration. Dilemma is the perfect title for this book...well maybe Dilemmas would have been more appropriate! It’s an emotional tear-jerker that touches on sensitive subjects and pulls at your heartstrings.
