About this deal

I want to preface my full review with the disclaimer that prior to reading this book, I liked Colleen Hoover as an author. Her book “It Ends with Us” is positively leagues above “Verity,” therefore my expectations going into this book were high. I thought fondly of Colleen’s writing, and was anything but a skeptic. Jeremy invites Lowen to stay at the Crawford home to work on her manuscript. While Lowen sorts through Verity's notes for her next book, she unexpectedly finds Verity's unfinished autobiography which Verity would never have wanted anyone to read. In the autobiography, Verity confesses some of her darkest secrets which even altered her family forever. Over the next few days as Lowen gets to know more about Verity's ugly side, she also starts falling for Jeremy and decides to tell him about the autobiography. After all, seeing his injured wife's horrifying truth would only make him get closer to Lowen... But who's side of the story is the real truth? That's for the readers to decide. As you can tell, I really enjoyed this dark and disturbing journey tale, despite every single character here being messed up.

Now, Lowen Ashleigh is on the brink of losing everything she has in life, which isn’t much, but also on the verge of losing herself. Then, like a miracle – or a curse? – an opportunity that she could never have expected presents itself. You must understand that although the suspense was okay and plot twists, even if below average, were at least emotion-inducing.... the romance was the blandest, stalest, dullest, dryest, most flavourless, and uninspiring piece of crap I've ever read. EVER. In fact, I even scrounged up some fan castings for you guys. I had such a clear picture of them in my head, I just had to share<3 While trying to sort through Verity’s notes and see where she was going with her story, she finds a manuscript titled “So Be It.” It turns out to be Verity’s own unpublished biography, and though Lowen’s job doesn’t involve doing much reading, she can’t help herself but become absorbed in the woman’s recollection of her storied past. However, as she reads further and further, the subject matter becomes darker and darker, containing some troubling revelations about the Crawford family.Synopsis: Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts a job offer from Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish. Lowen is a struggling writer who gets the opportunity of a lifetime to co-write a series with acclaimed author, Verity Crawford. When she arrives at Verity's home to do some research, she comes across a disturbing autobiography revealing the truth about all the tragic events in her life. Should Lowen let Verity's "dreamy" husband, Jeremy, know wassup? Or just sex him instead? Find out! For some, Verity will blow your minds, for others, it may frustrate you. I sit firmly in the middle. I loved it but I will forever remain confused as to how much I loved it. Sex is used mainly to manipulate and avoid discussing real issues between the MCs. Some of these could have been replaced with more scenes on developing the characters. Lowen starts to read Verity's book series called The Noble Virtues, which are all written from an antagonist's point of view. In Verity's office, Lowen also discovers an autobiographical manuscript that Verity wrote that reveals Verity's dark nature.

All of the characters were done so well. I could just vision them in my head. I love her writing style. This was one intense read. Let me tell you this author writes so well. OMG!OMG! OMG! The ending was just perfect. I loved that twist. Wow! But Lowen finds something else in Verity's office. An unfinished autobiography. As she reads, her fear grows. Lowen begins to dig into dark truths about the family and the deaths of their twin daughters. At the same time, she finds herself falling for Jeremy and wondering if perhaps she should reveal the truth to him. Jeremy's daughters died and his wife is in a coma, but his character often showed little to no sadness while there were a lot of paragraphs describing how crushed he was. Guess he too was so horny that it was OK to cheat on his wife. Oh and the solution? Transfer her to a nursing home so he could hook up with Lowen as much as he wants? Bad execution, bad writing, bad everything.

Detailed Plot Summary

But, what does Crew mean that her mother is talking to him? Why is Verity staring right into her eyes? How can the door be closed from outside, when Jeremy was with Lowen? How can a brain-dead woman stand above Lowen and watch while her husband is cheating on her? Starting with Lowen, at the beginning she appears to us as just a woman trying to live through life’s misfortunes while only really wanting to write books, and maybe find true love. She doesn’t seem like a bad person in the slightest, and despite her various self-deprecating assessments, we still get the impression she is a good person, destined to be a good and lovable heroine. The infamous manuscript captures Verity’s perspective of her life, her connection to Jeremy, her motivations for her children – and it’s horrifying to the level of disgust. But then again, we were warned this would happen: Lowen herself, the main protagonist, was very likeable. She was nervous and suspicious but not afraid to speak her mind. There was none of this pussy-footing around things because it allows the story to be dragged out – as soon as she wanted to say something, she’d express it. No matter which way I look at it, it’s clear that Verity was a master at manipulating the truth. The only question that remains is: Which truth was she manipulating?

Afterwards, Lowen destroys the letter. However, the book ends with her being unsure as to whether the letter was true or just another manipulation from Verity. Champagne SoakedChocolate Covered Strawberries Corey holds up a champagne bottle. “Thought we could celebrate the new contract,” he says, handing me the bottle. I’m appreciative he doesn’t mention the eviction. When I found out that Hoover had published an ebook, I got it immediately. Verity is addictive. I could not put it down. It is consuming you and leaves you speechless. Never in my life have I read a book so well written and with so many plot twists that you just cannot wrap your head around it. You just do not know what the truth is in the end. Lowen doesn’t have much choice in the matter since this is quite literally the opportunity of a lifetime. She can set herself up for the rest of her life if she complies and does the work. Accordingly, she feels sad for Jeremy and his dismal son. They have lost a lot and it is surely not easy to have another woman in their home, sleeping in Verity’s bed, doing her work, and touching her things. Everyone is WAY too cool with murder in this too. Verity is a Medea-figure here, one who uses sex as a means of control and ranks how she values Jeremy based on the quantity of sex they are having, so I guess its no surprise she’s down to murder and not give two shits. But then there is also the ending. I wanted to like it. I mean, okay this whole book plays with ideas of duality—the twins as two sides of Verity’s personality, the two possible truths at the end—but Hoover is WAY too eager to walk you through showing to point out how clever it is. She’s practically yelling “VERITY MEANS TRUTH! GET IT?!?!?!?”

ALSO the letter at the end that makes us doubt if Verity was actually a victim and Jeremy was the villain?? Like no that's not an amazing twist or anything, that's CH trying too hard. This kind of plot twist is overdone, it's a cliche you will find in horror movies or thrillers from early 2000s. I expected better. The premise of the book starts with Lowen, a budding author who writes thriller novels. She is approached by an agent who then asks her to co-write the rest of an unfinished series written originally by Verity Crawford. However, instead of simply finding Verity’s old notes and outlines, Lowen discovers a manuscript for Verity’s autobiography. Things progress from there. Lowen’s growing attraction to the grieving husband, Jeremy Crawford, prompts her to make irreversible choices until another truth comes to light. But now the question remains: which truth is the lie? Verity Book Review

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her. Courtney Poullas, 36, who lives in Youngstown, Ohio, read Verity, her “gateway” Hoover book, last year, and has blown through half a dozen since. “I used to read highbrow literature,” said Poullas, an English professor who once considered William Shakespeare her favorite author. “Colleen Hoover has a way of making you relate to the characters, and her language choices tug at my heartstrings. She makes me feel so much.” So yea, this is fun enough I guess? I see the appeal. It’ll make a great movie when it inevitably happens. It could really only be improved upon, like, maybe actors will put some personality into these lifeless characters. The biggest plot hole in this is that two different people were in love with Jeremy, he’s as unlikable and bland as possible. Imagine Lowen having sex with a loaf of stale bread that is as down to kill as it is down to bang. You can now say you’ve read Verity.Speaking of the handsome man, Jeremy is depicted as an attractive, kind and caring father and loving husband. Verity is absolutely obsessed with him, and soon Lowen starts falling for him as well. I’m not completely convinced of his perfection and there were a few hinky things that I was left wondering about at the end. But a lot of it is left open to interpretation. The format used is one of my favorites – telling a story within a story. The dual POVs swinging between Lowen’s present and Verity’s past made for a gripping read. You get to figure things out alongside Lowen as she reads the manuscript while Verity sets the stage for the twist. Nobody knows what they are truly capable of until they are thrust into a situation allowing all of their dormant aspects to express themselves. I think most of us assume that we are good people and incapable of crossing certain barriers, but as Lowen Ashleigh finds out in Verity by Colleen Hoover, life has such insidious and far-reaching vertices that one might fail to realize they’ve become absorbed in the first place. It’s what you do when you’ve experienced the worst of the worst. You seek out people like you…people worse off than you…and you use them to make yourself feel better about the terrible things that have happened to you. Verity is a complex story about an author who is ghost writing a series for Verity Crawford, an author who is injured in a way she can’t write right now- maybe ever. Her husband, Jeremy, commissions Lowen to do this work. Lowen goes to the Crawford’s house to do some research but that house and that family is more than she ever expected. While searching through old paperwork pertaining to the series Verity has written, she finds a manuscript of a truly messed up autobiography that changes her life and the life of the Crawford family forever.
