About this deal

Sidenote: Alan Adler was always very conservative when it came to releasing new products, but the new owners have already announced a range of new gadgets to be released soon The author tries out the Flow Control Filter Cap with her normal coffee recipe to see how the new product measures up to the original cap. Trying Out Our Traditional Recipe with the Flow Control Filter Cap The Fellow Prismo has become more popular to ensure that no coffee is dripping out of the AeroPress, rather than an espresso gadget. However, a more realistic description of the product is that it is AeroPress’ own version of what the Prismo is doing. This is a significant development as it allows the brewer to be one step closer to achieving espresso-style brewed coffee just like the Fellow Prismo. It would be interesting to see if this can make a better espresso compared to other pressurized caps available for Aeropress.

The AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap connects to the AeroPress Original, AeroPress Clear, or AeroPress Go brew chamber just like the filter cap that comes with an AeroPress coffee maker. The valve on the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap stops water from dripping through until you press the plunger. This gives you unparalleled control over your recipe - a very important part of making espresso style coffee. The small size of the exit hole also creates higher pressure during the brew process, which helps simulate espresso. New to the AeroPress filter scene is the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap made by Aerobie themselves. This is one of the first new products released from Aerobie after the company was acquired by a new owner

Aeropress Flow Control Filter Cap

Now, you might think regular AeroPress filters do the same thing, but when you add around 1.5 bars of pressure, they become more porous. That means they let some of those bitter compounds seep into your cup, making the coffee taste not as great as it could. By the way; the Prismo can be used with or without a paper filter – depending on your preference. AEROPRESS FLOW CONTROL FILTER CAP The recipe was quite simple: Flow Control Filter Cap, paper filter, 18 grams of coffee, pour in 60 ml of water, stir vigorously for 30 seconds, close, and press. However, the standard filters often produce a slightly muddy cup if you ask me. This is called “turbidity” by scientifically inclined coffee geeks.

ESPRESSO-STYLE CREMA – When used with a paper filter and dark roast coffee, the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap uses a build up of pressure to create an espresso like crema. Aesir filters are made from a new type of paper, which comes from a more dense and consistent pulp than what you’d find in most coffee filters. What was really interesting was the difference between the two coffees, both in taste and appearance. The “classic“ filter cap gave its usual slightly oily cup, with more body and more sweetness, but with a lower level of acidity. The Flow Control Filter Cap gave a visibly cleaner cup, with less oily residue and more lively, acidic notes. It was more reminiscent of a percolated extraction than a classic AeroPress cup. Using a fresh dark roast is the best way to produce crema with the new AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap. Espresso Results

What Filter Makes the Best Crema?

I am a long time user of the Fellow Prismo, I probably make 60% of my cups using Onyx's 2 minute immersion recipe. I would describe myself as an insufferable coffee snob, and since I began roasting my own beans last year, I've developed a pretty sensitive palate due to all the practice with cupping.
