About this deal

You know, that realization that it’s over. The increased pace in your heart, that lost feeling that might creep up within you. The kind that causes you to stare into space and contemplate your existence. The world is in turmoil. I don’t think that there’s a writer that I know who is fully able to switch that off. I told myself I could only buy more YA books if I read any new ones right away and started to make some headway with the scores already completely littering my shelves. So here we are.

Turquoise water stretches into the distance, stuffed full of blue tangs and schools of yellowtail snapper that flounder away from our ship and conceal themselves beneath thin layers of sea foam. Through the morning haze sits an outline of cloud-shrouded mountains that shape the kingdom’s northernmost island, Mornute. It’s one of the six islands I’ve not yet seen but will one day rule. Instinctively, my hand goes to the leather satchel resting on my hip. The contents inside clatter as I touch their rigid edges. Bastian, a pirate who just happens to be around, just happens to access the deepest darkest dungeon for the most dangerous criminals on an impulse to save the princess. Without any magic or a plan, he helps Amora escape. As you do. The characters are well written. There are no better crew members to lead you on a sailing quest than a charming pirate, a vicious yet lovely mermaid, a loyal protective healer, and a strong determined princess. For some reason though, while I can recognize that our heroine has some great qualities, I couldn’t fully root for her in the beginning. She treats her fiance like he’s some dirt under her shoe. I understand her frustration, but at the very least she could treat him like a friend. This is just conjecture. Musings… Questions to which I’d love the answer. Perhaps I’m too used to interviewing authors? MelodramaNow that ARCS will be circulating soon, I also wanted to hop on here and talk about some of the content warnings in this book. Skip now, if you don't want to read them: if there’s one thing i’ve learned today while reading the entirety of this book, it’s not to trust adalyn grace anymore. she can and will hurt your soul ‘till you can feel the pain in your bones. i am a puddle of emotions and tears. I’m a little confused by the mechanics. There was a LOT of stuff going on with curse magic that it didn’t seem to follow a set pattern. But the horrifying stuff that was done with curse magic. Wow.

Every person—young and old—is out tonight. When the time comes for my performance, there will be no hiding from the eyes of Visidia. The royal family is the only family who can practice soul magic, allowing them to read souls and inflict pain without touching a person. The beast is said to live within the royal bloodline and the heir to the throne is required to prove to their people that they can control the beast. When Amora's chance to prove herself comes along, things don't go as planned. Amora is forced to flee and soon finds herself in league with a pirate on a mission to save her kingdom from a threat she had no idea existed.I wrote this, so I'm definitely going to go ahead and mark this as read for my goodreads challenge. But our most distinctive difference is that despite his royal lineage, Yuriel cannot learn soul magic. He gave up that right when he was five years old and accidentally used enchantment magic to turn Aunt Kalea’s hair fluorescent green.

Then there’s Bastian. He’s a self-centered pirate who’s only goal is solve his own problems. Amora just happens to be a means to an end. He is filled with quippy jokes and sass. You can guess how this goes. If there's one truth I know, it's that I will make things right for my kingdom. That is my fate, and I will do whatever I must to see it through. Amora is forced to flee her kingdom after she fails her test in becoming the High Animancer. Desperate for a second chance, she agrees to an alliance with a mysterious pirate and goes on a mission that’ll hopefully help prove she’s fit to rule. THE BOOK WAS FILLED WITH TROPES and although they aren't all bad, it just made the storyline somewhat predictable. Some things about the ending surprised me but others were definitely obvious. All the Stars and Teeth is about a princess, Amora, whose family alone possesses powerful soul magic.Amora is still the fierce protagonist we had in book one. But her nervousness and flaws are evident throughout the story. She makes some dire mistakes that almost cost her life. The pressure is on, and it's clear that her head isn't in the game at all times. That is what I love about her character. She's queen, sure, but she'd also a teenager plagued with loss and heartache. When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he'll help her prove she's fit to rule, if she'll help him reclaim his stolen magic.
