Instead of constraining you to a single specific regiment, the new codex has you mix and match tactics to create your favourite flavour of Guardsmen. All you need to do is choose a pair of Regimental Doctrines to dictate how they fight. These doctrines represent traits like superior artillery skills, high-quality armour, impressive discipline amongst the ranks, or experience in guerilla warfare. And that’s without talking about all the head options – including enough cap-clad heads to outfit an entire squad with brimmed headgear, and one soldier wearing a nice warm hat knitted by his mum. There’s also an impromptu grave for a true hero of the Imperium, stalwart sandbags for anyone unable to reach an Aegis Defence Line, and MORE BAYONETS!You can also field these as Spotter Veterans in a veteran squad, so this sprue will be pretty versatile, making tons of cool-looking minis! If you can get off 20 shots from a single unit, this should net you 3-4 extra hits, and there’s nothing wrong with getting more hits! Also, they tease that the Death Korps of Krieg will get more rules and pay attention to more coming soon.

Straken is the only super combat monster in this book and you can’t give him a Relic so it feels off to have so many weird things. Again this points to having Relics cost X points versus a CP as you always have 5-10 points left laying around which would be convenient to throw on a Sarge or Commander. That poor Relic Plasma Pistol we always see left in the Relic box would show up more if it just cost a few points.
