About this deal

They are just held in place by tension. I actually used some extendable hot dog cookers I found at the local grocery store for the rods. It’s cheap, simple, and best of all, it works! To set a temperature, you simply tap the temperature icon, turn the dial and tap the same icon again. The same goes for the timer which can be used as a stopwatch or a timer, with all info being ported in real-time to the accompanying Masterbuilt app. You can use this grill with up to four wired meat probes – it ships with one – that slip through a hole in the side of the grill chassis. Each probe can be preset with its own destination temperature at which point an alarm will sound on the unit and on the app.

Firstly, this BBQ comes in a huge box on a pallet, but the good news is that the top half of the box lifts off to expose the items – and there are many of them. Thankfully, the main carcass of the grill – i.e. the grilling tub and the hopper – arrives fully assembled though you will definitely require two sets of hands to lift it because it is heavy with a capital H. This grill/smoker is aimed at people who want the taste of cooking with charcoal, without any of the hassles. The bottom and largest level measures about 18 inches deep by 28 inches wide. (That’s an additional 3 inches in depth and 6 inches in width from the 560 model). Instead of a hopper full of pellets, you add lump or briquette charcoal. You still need to add a fire-starter, but then the fan controls the burn rate and manages the temperature of the grill. The ‘Gravity Series’ is charcoal BBQing made simple. It’s as convenient, controllable, efficient and clean as a gas BBQ… but it has all the flavour, fun and personality of charcoal. This charcoal grill smoker is designed to smoke low and slow, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With a cooking temperature as high as 700°, it can easily grill and sear. And we like how simple it is to operate; there’s no need to neatly pile charcoal and arrange wood chunks or fiddle with a charcoal chimney starter. It’s charcoal smoking with all the advantages of pellet, gas, and electric smokers. What Could Be Improved Over to the left is where all the clever stuff occurs. I haven’t a clue what’s inside the controller but all I know is I’m amazed at how well it controls the grill’s internal temperature. Given that the 560 uses simply gravity and no moving mechanical parts aside from a spinning fan, I’ve been super impressed by how accurately it has maintained temperatures. On average, I’d say it is within two or three degrees of the preset temperature and that's a simply phenomenal level of control for a charcoal barbie. The fan is very quiet and nothing like the jet-engine roar of a pellet grill. In fact, you can hardly hear it at all. Also, it draws very little electricity so you could easily use this BBQ with a power station like the BioLite BaseCharge 1500. We’ll be breaking down the differences between the two models here in just a moment. But first let’s talk about what’s the same in both the 560 and the 1050. Functionality: Make sure the air intake slides have been removed (as previously discussed, this is the number one mistake people make!)

Forget manually adjusting the coals to get your grill to the right temperature – easily adjust the SteadyTemp™ dial to maintain desired temperature for up to 4 hours. You can do more than smoke with the Masterbuilt 1050, though. It’ll hit 700F in just 15 minutes. That’s plenty hot enough to cook your burgers, steaks, sausages, and more in no time.

I like to put every grill I test through some standard tests to see how well it performs in a few different areas. Come up to temp speed test Heat and smoke waft into the cooking chamber through a side vent, and it’s channeled through a metal box with outlet holes punched into both sides along its length. (Masterbuilt calls it a “heat manifold assembly.”) It’s a bit like an offset smoker in this aspect. Masterbuilt BBQs offers three different models of charcoal grills: the 560, the 800, and the 1050. Each model has its unique features and specifications that make it suitable for different cooking needs. In this blog post, we'll explore the differences between these models and help you decide which one is the best fit for your barbecuing needs. Now, I don’t remember much from science class. But, I do know that one of the fundamental rules of physics is “what goes up must come down.”

The Masterbuilt Portable Charcoal Grill provides the unmatched flavour of charcoal with the ease of a gas grill on the go. IMPORTANT! Remove the two air intake slides (and store them on the handy hanger added for this very purpose!) After reading tons of threads on forums and Facebook groups, this is the biggest mistake people make when they cannot light the grill. Hey, even I’ve done it! Lol. I don’t seem why that bonded section couldn’t have been put at the BOTTOM of the door away from the fire.

Do all Masterbuilt gravity smokers have a rotisserie option?

Yes, you can grill on the Masterbuilt gravity-fed series. But, you can grill just as easily on a much smaller, much simpler, more fuel-efficient, and much less expensive charcoal barbecue. BUT, it’s good to have a dual-purpose bit of kit that can primarily smoke, and grill on occasion when needed. The Masterbuilt Gravity series is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled and can be monitored and controlled via a smartphone app. The 800 and 1050 are more insulated than the 560, but all models are double skinned metal with an air gap in between; this helps with the insulation properties. The 800 and 1050 are based on a more square design and have stainless steel front and side shelves. The size of each of the different models varies quite considerably, which in turn effects things such as surface cooking area, capacity, weight and fuel efficiency.
