About this deal

Thousands of years ago, the land is a dark forest, peopled by hunter-gatherers who know every tree and herb. Then a dark, malevolent force conjures a demon contained in the body of a ferocious bear that will slay everything it sees - a demon determined to destroy the world.

The Wolf Brother series is set in northern Scandinavia 6,000 years after the Ice Age and follows Torak, his friend Renn and his wolf, Wolf. The bond between Torak and Wolf is the heart of the story and the clans featured in the books are based on real hunter-gatherers whose connection with, and respect for the land, resonated with readers. Cómo he vivido tantos años sin conocer esta saga? Me ha parecido espectacular. He llorado, he sufrido y he reído en un viaje apasionante, junto con Torak y Lobo (ala, ya está, ¡me he vuelto a enamorar de otro peludo!) por los bosques de la Finlandia de hace 6000 años.

I'm from Sweden. When I first read wolf brother, I was twelve. Now I am eighteen and I still get obsessed by these books. However I've got a question: Will there be a TV series? If so, when will it release date? What a charming, fantastic book. This is everything that I hoped Jean Auel’s books would be, but weren’t. That’s high praise from me, and considering I spent a year perusing stone age fiction in hopes of finding a good series and failing to do so. Guardian children's fiction prize relaunched: Entry details and list of past winners". The Guardian 12 March 2001. Retrieved 6 August 2012. This is a children's book that has crossover appeal to adults. It's set 6,000 years ago in a hunter-gathering society that believes in magic, where there are various clans that band together to survive in the forest. The book opens with our hero, a boy who is "twelve summers old," coping with the death of his father who was killed by a demonic bear. That sends the boy on a quest to find a way to kill the bear. A wolf cub becomes his friend and guide, and along with a girl from another clan, they face trials and adventures.

Not to mention what seems like a mistake that I couldn't overlook throughout the book (other readers of this book, this is actually a question - is it a mistake, or have I misunderstood something?): Torak isn't allowed to mention the name of the dead - his father - for five years after his death, yet later in the book, he does this several times, casually. The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness are an exciting read with plenty to get your heart thumping with demons, mythical adventures, and a story of close friendship against all odds. Wolf Brother is set thousands of years ago in an enchanted world split into clans and territories. Each clan respected what nature gave up for their nourishment and way of life, but there are rules. Torak lives with his father remote from any clan, and suddenly his father is killed by an evil possessed bear and Torak is left alone with only a wolf cub as his companion. There is more to this situation than meets the eye, but that will be revealed over the next 6 books. He wins by temporarily blinding Hord with steam; this action, together with a dog whistle which Torak has made to summon Wolf, leads Fin-Kedinn and the Raven mage to see Torak as the "Listener" of a prophecy. The prophecy states that the Listener, who "talks with silence and fights with air", will offer his heart's blood to the World Spirit and thereby kill the demon-bear. Many Ravens now believe that Torak must be sacrificed. Torak manages to escape his imprisonment; he is unexpectedly joined by Renn, who has also brought Wolf. Though adversarial at first, Torak and Renn develop a mutual respect, and eventually become friends.

What is so special about Torak? And can he make sense of it? Who can he make friends with, who are his allies and who or what is after him? Torak will start on an adventure that will be overwhelming, supernatural and intriguing. He has special gifts in that he can talk to wolves and he is totally joined with his cub and Wolf Brother. Wolf Brother is the first book in the series Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. Wolf Brother takes place six thousand years ago during the Middle Stone Age, and tells the story of twelve-year-old Torak, a boy who can talk to wolves. The book was published in 2004 by Orion Children's Books. Me encanta leer libros orientados a un público infantil porque, de vez en cuando, me topo con joyitas de este tipo. No hubo, para mí, ni un solo momento de aburrimiento. Paver said: "I’ve had more meetings with producers about Wolf Brother than I can remember but Anne Brogan and Melanie Stokes from Kindle Entertainment stood out from the very first time I met them. They knew the series inside out and – a big plus for me – their children were fans. Wolf Brother fans have extremely high expectations for a television series and Anne and Mel share the same burning desire to create a legendary series. I’m entrusting them with the lives of Torak, Renn and Wolf! I know they will be in safe hands."

The original six-title series was a huge success and was published in 36 different languages and 37 different territories. The series concluded with Ghost Hunter, but after a 10-year hiatus and pressure from fans, Paver announced a three-book continuation of the series last year. The next instalment, Viper's Daughter, will be published on 2nd April by Zephyr, an imprint of Head of Zeus. I was reluctant to read it again only because I had first read it at a much younger age, and I felt that perhaps I had grown out of it. I could not have been any more wrong! It's a coming-of-age story, wrapped up in a quest. A "fellowship of the ring" but with only 3 in the group. Parts are scary. Dark.

Wolf Brother is an alright book if you're into light reading and this kind of genre. If you, like me, however, are into/used to "deeper" books, that leave you wanting more and give you something to think about afterwards - this book might leave you unimpressed. Can easily be read as a standalone novel, so skilful is the storytelling... Paver powerfully presents a world view that's magical but never primitive' Financial Times on Skin TakerThe Soul-Eaters are a group of mages who united to combine their powers for the good of all people calling themselves the "Healers", but became corrupted and now wish to have power over everyone, using a crystal called the Fire Opal to make demons do their bidding. There were initially seven of mages in the group. Torak's late father, Fa, joined the group against his wife's advice, before rejecting their desire to take power. He summoned the seven together and shattered the Fire Opal into three pieces, causing a great fire that ripped across the forest. The Soul Eaters were scattered and Torak's father and mother went into exile. Torak's mother then gave birth to her son, and when she died shortly afterwards Fa continued his exile with his son for 12 years, before Fa's death at the beginning of the first novel. The seven mages were from the Otter Clan (the Walker/Narrander), Seal Clan (Tenris), Wolf Clan (Torak's Father), Bat Clan (Nef), Viper Clan (Seshru), Oak Clan (Thiazzi), and Eagle Owl Clan (Eostra).
