About this deal

hard floor head has high friction and does not glide smoothly across the floor, but kind of grinds its way across (better on tiles, terrible on lino planks) All of the tools, the flexible hose and the steel telescopic tubes are well designed and built to last. In particular, the tubes are robust, if not light, and extend with ease thanks to a large collar that releases the clip mechanism. We found that half-extended was good for floor cleaning, with the extra length useful for high-up cobweb busting. Plus if you like gadgetry you can open up the app on your phone and actually see a live stream of where it’s cleaning. Not particularly useful but goddamn is it cool. I would have to say yes, they’ve been tested for a 20-year lifespan and although they only have a 2-year guarantee you can’t argue with that testing. It’s got all the best smart sensor technology so that it can detect and make its way around your house but it does sometimes struggle to go from room to room.

A lot of people who are replacing their Miele vacuums are usually disappointed to have to downgrade from a 1200w motor to a 900w motor. Won’t the suction be so much worse? Emptying the enormous bin is as simple as holding it over you dustbin and releasing the large flap. The internal layout of the cyclone resists debris becoming caught up around the main circular filter gauze, so it empties cleanly all of the time. The Active AirClean filter features active charcoal for neutralising unpleasant odours in the air – ideal for pet owners or smokers. Never experience the awkwardness of visitors noticing the unwanted smells you may have grown accustomed to. So if you’re looking for a canister vacuum it’s Miele every time but if you want an upright then go with Shark.

Plastic not so fantastic - feels cheap and like bits are going to snap off with dust container removal and brush nozzle fitted to handle. Also, Dysons are bagless so you get a big cloud of dust when you go to empty them which is a problem for some. The EU brought in new regulations limiting vacuum cleaners to a power of less than 900 w to increase energy efficiency. The Total Solution Allergy has the best air filter with the all-powerful HEPA filter. It also has a parquet head which is great for delicate floors such as laminate or stone because it’s got softer bristles. But unfortunately, this model is no longer for sale. And that price is the price! Dysons are expensive, like really expensive, so if you can’t afford one or don’t want to spend that much on a vacuum then you’ll do great with the Miele. Our carpet and hard-floor test results with this head were a replica of those achieved with the same head on the CX1 Excellence model. Simply put: superb cleaning right up to the skirting edge, with only a few heavier grains of test powder showing on the carpet after a single pass. Pictures of that test can be found here. Finally, it’s got a dual air filter in it to make the air in your house feel fresher. Not a bag choice at all when it comes to a robot vacuum. The brush arm is 25% more powerful than previous models and is now much more effective on low pile carpets, which combine with a 2 hour run time and it will easily get around your house.

Although we weren’t able to measure the noise level due to technical issues, it was noticeably quieter to our ear. Miele pegs the noise output at 78dB which is in line with typical vacuum cleaner noise levels, with anything above 80dB approaching the noise level of a food blender. The floor head is not motorized, so the only sound you’ll hear is from the motor. The CX1 Cat & Dog has no shortage of tools and accessories. It adds the Cat & Dog floorhead to the Excellence model’s tool roster and misses only the giant Parquet head and electronic control handle from the flagship Comfort model. This means you’ll find that new Miele vacuums are more powerful in terms of suction than older models despite the lower power with the vortex suction system. No, or rather you can actually reuse the bag through a janky method but it’s a false economy that will lead to dust leaking out and you ending up having to replace the motor which is much more expensive. The same goes for buying off-brand bags, they don’t filter as well and will end up doing more costly damage to your vacuum over time. Every 6 months is the rule of thumb but many models tell you when the filter is starting to get full and needs to be swapped out. It’s the Blizzard CX1, that’s got the most power and best suction of any of the models. Which sub-model you go for won’t affect the power, but that’s the most powerful.
