Each library has levels, andeach level is divided into zones, which provide a different type of study environment. In eachzone you'll finda range of learning spaces, for example:PCs, Desks andApple Macs. The Creative Media Centre does not format/erase memory cards. It is the student's responsibility to format/erase memory cards BEFORE using the equipment to ensure full capacity of data storage. If a bookable PC does not have an advance booking, it will still be available on a first come first served basis.

In the Main Library there are computers that are bookable in advance, as well as computers that are available on a first come first served basis.

Specification – Major considerations are processor speed, memory size and hard drive size and type. Also bear in mind screen size, whether it has a DVD or Blu-ray drive and what peripheral devices (camera, scanner etc) you may want to plug in. Think about what you will use the computer for to help you decide. It might be helpful to ask for advice in a computer store or research your options on the internet. Many resources in the library can be booked in advance, however if you are in the library and a bookable resource is available you can use it. Booking in advance is the best way to guarantee access to the space you need (see the'How to book a learning space' tab).

A laptop is mobile, giving you flexibility with regards to where you can work. Plus you can access free Wi-Fi if you're working on campus. If a bookable space without IT is available you can use the space but please be aware that if another user books the space you will need to relocate to another available space or a non-bookable area.

Please note if you log in to a non-bookable IT space and do not use the computer for more than 30 minutes the system will automatically log you out. Students will not be able to collect equipment without an approved Risk Assessment (if the activity is not covered by the Green RA form) The Creative Media Centre would like to welcome all new and returning students. We are now open as normal. Please see our Opening Hours section (above). Desktops are restricted to being used in one place. However they can be more powerful with bigger and better screens. Plus they usually offer better connectivity with other devices such as scanners, printers, cameras and phones. They have the same functionality as the rest of the computers in the Library and have the same range of software installed.
