About this deal

A comprehensive range of rods that are perfect for any commercial fishing as well as natural waters. Seamless actions and high quality components make them unbeatable value for money. There is a rod in the range for any situation whether its underarming a method feeder in the margin or long range casting on a big reservoir. Each feeder rod is supplied with two carbon tips, 1oz & 2oz. Aesthetically pleasing, bags of performance mixed with a progressive action means these are equally comfortable fished on natural waters too! Overall though, each version of the rod is very solid and you should have no problem casting with any of them in commercial fisheries and small lakes, etc. Quality The 10-footer is preferable for tight swims at a shorter range because it is more accurate and the extended 11ft version is better distance casting. Middy is literally giving two rods inside of one! Honestly if casting if the main priority for you, this is definitely one to for. Quality NOT so long ago – only last November, in fact – I ran the rule over one of Preston Innovations’ affordable new Ignition Feeder rods.

And of course, this means you need a feeder rod, but with all the options and versions of rods on the market, it can be difficult to find the right rod for you. We’ve compiled a list of tested and researched rods that we think will be perfect for the majority of match anglers. Fishing Rod With the Ignition, Preston decided to toughen up the quiver tips and fine-tune the nature of the rod so that it is perfect for reading bites and playing fish. With an excellent progressive action, the Ignition feeder rods handle fish of most sizes incredibly well, whether there’s a bream or a big brute of a carp at the end of your line, the Ignition range has got you covered. The perfect all round commercial feeder rod. Suitable for casting method feeders up to around 40m. progressive action which is perfect for taming match sized carp. Reel Seat: The part of the handle that your reel attaches to. Almost all UK coarse rods have screw-down reel seats, where the fore-grip on the handle rotates and closes the seat to hold the reel in place. Casting Weight: 30g – Transport Length: 140cm – Weight: 158g – Handle Length: 52cm – Line rating: 4-10lb – Sections: 2 Quiver tip: The very top (often brightly coloured) section of a feeder rod, used to identify bites, which bends and 'quivers' when a fish moves off with the bait. Like the test curve of a rod, quiver tips are often rated in test curves measured in ounces. Coupled with a quality reel and the Ignition has no problem casting to the tight margins of an island or just handing a few meters ahead, it also comes in two pellet waggler versions which are equally as impressive. Overall, its well-built, well-equipped, and really versatile which is why it makes it to the top of our list. Quality

Unlike a short feeder rod, it's generally anything from 10ft-12ft long and for casting around 30-50m. This type of rod really excels for casting up to islands that are a bit further away than usual or fishing on big, commercial or natural venues. They will help improve accuracy, fish hook to land ratio and your efficiency on the bank. The casting range on the ignition really depends on the model you choose to buy, they come in 9 to 12 feet, with the 9-foot rods being good at short-range work in tight swims and margins while the 12-foot rods are much better suited to distance casting. Be it float or feeder, an F1 rod needs to be as soft and as forgiving as possible, to absorb the weighty lunges of a hard fighting fish that just doesn’t know when it is beaten. There’s no doubt that this rod is an excellent feeder but it wouldn’t be our first recommendation to new anglers. Its a bit more pricey than some of the other rods and although it compensates through its incredible technology and features, its something that we feel a lot of anglers may not use. That much I’d already been told through reading the blurb, but to confirm these claims I treated myself to a day’s live testing of the 10ft short feeder rod on Decoy Lakes Fishery near Peterborough.

The car’s temperature gauge was showing it was only 50C out there, and to me it was even duller than another weekend without match fishing, football without a proper crowd, or the basic bloke necessity of going down the pub! Fishing for F1s could almost be a branch of the sport all on its own, thanks to the unique skills required to catch them. No, you should choose a rod that best suits the distance that you want to fish at. A rod that is too long and powerful will make casting short distances with any kind of accuracy difficult and will have a poor fish-playing action. This is why all rod ranges feature models of varying lengths and powers. If you generally fish in the same venue or a handful of venues and you know what sort of distances you'll be fishing, then try to get a rod to match the style of angling you do. If you only need to cast 40m, a rod that will cast 90m is almost useless to you as the extra power will make it cumbersome to use at the shorter distances and may lead to hook pulls. A shorter, softer rod of around 10-11ft would be ideal, if you do fish venues, you need the extra distance, then go for a rod 11-12ft with an increased casting weight. Casting Weight: Depending on the manufacturer, it is either the best suited or maximum total weight in grams that you should cast with your rod. You will normally find your rod will perform best at around half its total casting weight. E.g. a 120g feeder rod best suits a 60g feeder.

Most commercial fishery feeder rods are designed with a progressive fish playing that bends at the tip and 'powers up' along the blank as more pressure is exerted, and ideal for carp. All-round feeder rods tend to have softer 'through' or 'cushioned parabolic' fish playing actions ideal for all species of silver fish. Casting Weight: 40g – Transport Length: 155cm – Weight: 169g – Handle Length: 54cm – Line rating: 4-10lb – Sections: 2

The progressive action is also another feature that makes this rod stand out, especially when playing the smaller fish. We’re carp anglers mostly and we use the heavier tips most often but the lighter quiver tips allow us to target various other species like bream, roach, and rudd. No matter what you’re fishing for, the Drennan Red Range rods get the job done! However, since the rod is nearly entirely made from rare materials, it is incredibly expensive. Costing several hundred pounds makes the Tournament SLR difficult to recommend to most people. It is undoubtedly and phenomenal rod and arguably the best feeder rod in production. However, it costs a lot of money, and unless you’re a serious match fisherman who’s trying a gain a competitive edge or someone who simply wants the best rod available, its difficult to justify the price. Fighting/General UsageFor budget rods they really are the business. They feel light to hold (to me anyway) have a good action and will bend all the way through when it comes to it (which you can see from the Preston adverts for them) and really power up when the bigger boys try to charge off. Fish playing action: A way of describing how good a rod performs when reeling in a fish. A rod with a good fish-playing action will provide plenty of cushion to a thrashing fish, preventing hook pulls (lost fish) and line breakages. Through action: A rod that has a softer top section but still produces a cushioned bend throughout its entire length, giving a good fish-playing action.
