About this deal

Fibre tap washers are also often called vulcanised fibre washers because they are hardened by being treated with sulphur at high temperatures. They have the unique property among washers of expanding when they are wet. Rubber or polythene tap washers are often used in all kinds of basin, bath and shower mixer taps. They come in a wide selection of sizes to suit various jobs, including 32 mm, 40 mm and 1 inch. They have similar longevity to nylon, although they’re much softer and a lot more pliant overall. It is not necessary to measure the washer diameter, as it is normally the same as the tap thread size. There are two main sizes of tap washers, 3/4″ and 1/2″, with some minor variations. If you have a tap with separate hot and cold handles, you will need to measure each one to determine the correct washer size needed. The easiest way to do this is to use a set of vernier calipers. A bath tap washer, like any other tap washer, is a small, disc-shaped component found inside the base of your tap. Its job is basically just to stop water flowing through the tap’s spout when the handle is in the off position, hence why you get those drips ( drip… drip…alright, we’ll stop now) when it isn’t working properly.

When the flow valve opens, the pressurised mains water that is held within the plumbing system passes through the tap spout. As the tap handle turns more, the rotating screw forces the washer further up and opens the flow valve more, allowing for control of the flow volume and speed. Remove the Existing Washer: First, turn off the water supply to avoid a minor flood. Then, you'll need to dismantle the tap. This usually involves removing the handle and unscrewing the valve from the tap base. Once you've done this, you should be able to access and remove the washer.

As you can imagine, expansion on exposure to water makes fibre tap washers very effective tap sealants. In addition, the fibre versions are usually easier to compress than their nylon or rubber counterparts so they’re less at risk from damage due to over-tightening.

EPDM Rubber Washers: EPDM rubber washers provide a comparatively tougher and stronger washer, with the capacity for greater shore hardness. EPDM rubber washers also provide better resistance to weathering, ozone and UV exposure. They also possess a good resistance to acids. This helps these rubber washers to maintain their properties over time, especially when used in outdoor applications or under constant mechanical stress. Core Applications of Rubber Washers: O rings can be used for static seals (e.g. taps) or for dynamic applications (e.g. pistons). These torus-shaped rings may also be called toric joints. Manufacturer Specifications: Different manufacturers may have unique specifications and require different washer sizes, even for the same type of tap. Rubber tap washers are another popular choice for sealing many types of bath and sink taps. Sealing washers in rubber are sold at a wide variety of standard sizes - common requirements include the 15mm rubber washer, 1-inch rubber washer, 32mm rubber washer and 40mm rubber washer.Plumbing and Pipework: Rubber washers are widely used in plumbing applications to create compression seals in pipes and fittings, these can be made water tight and help to prevent leaks and ensure efficient water flow. They achieve their purpose by creating an impenetrable physical barrier between the tap seat and the spout. The material construction of most tap washers also means that they’re able to fill and even out any irregularly-shaped voids between different parts of a tap fitting (generally the valve and the tap seat), effectively sealing off the tap spout from the valve. In addition, nylon washers are lightweight and because they are very cheap to manufacture, they’re sold at low prices too. If a tap is used on a daily basis and the washer will be compressed many times over a short period, nylon can be your best bet. These tap washers are also reasonably chemically inert and so won’t react too much to other substances which can be especially helpful if they’re exposed to corrosive environments. And, because they don’t deform over a range of temperatures, they can withstand very hot water.

Standard Rubber Washers: Our standard rubber washers are crafted from high-quality neoprene, providing a great value and effective sealing solution. Neoprene rubber washers are known for their good all round performance and will do the job in most applications that don’t require extreme temperatures or hardness. Silicone Rubber Washers: For applications requiring high-temperature resistance, our silicone rubber washers are the best choice. Silicone rubber offers excellent performance in extreme temperatures, making these washers suitable for thermally intensive industrial conditions. Silicone rubber also has the advantage of having the capacity to be a food safe material, which is useful for food processing plants. The load is the amount of force that is acting on the fastener, so bringing it down reduces the general wear on the assembly and extends its lifespan. In plumbing, tap washers are small disks fitted to the inside of a tap. The first thing to do when undertaking any kind of tap maintenance is to make sure you don’t accidentally turn your bathroom into a swimming pool. You’ll need to cut off the water supply to the tap before disassembling it. This can often be done via an isolation valve located beneath the tap itself, which can be shifted into the off position using a flathead screwdriver.

With the exception of plumbing washers, which are fairly easy to select, you will have to consider the following factors if you have to replace washers or O rings in another other type of installation: Ceramic assemblies are very commonly found on monobloc, or mixer taps, as well as so-called quarter-turn taps. The operating mechanism requires just a quarter of a single handle turn to start and stop the water flow, so they’re a lot easier to use for anyone with dexterity issues. Ball Taps were the first type of waterless tap to be developed and are very commonly seen in kitchens. They have a single handle, which moves over and controls a ball-shaped cap directly above the spout’s base. Rubber washers find applications across a spectrum of industries, offering valuable sealing and cushioning solutions. In the UK market, some common applications include:
