About this deal

The Cosworth powerplant was ripe for modification and in full racing spec could be upped to massive 400bhp. Over 13 MILLION people have had a parcel delivery issue in the last month - and new league table shows ALL major parcel firms are underperforming

Rust is a serious Sierra problem, but by now most three-door Cossies have been restored or in need of very little work. But don’t take it for granted; even a low-mileage or renovated car requires a thorough inspection. A word about the chassis : it is plastic, and from what I’ve heard it will stay like that, but the car is almost a roller. On my 4 examples, I have some rolling better than others. I can’t tell what will happen with models in production (mines are final samples), but I believe it will stay like that, which is a compromise admissible from my point of view. Oh, and the interior is also treated well, with this kind of tartan interior, with details up to the doors ! I had the chance to discuss some points with Fransisco from Inno64 about what colors would be the best to start, propose some ideas for racing versions and also talk about the precision of the lines of the car. To me, the most important thing about the Sierra is the rear window, but we will have a look at this point later. It's even being sold supplied with a selection of spare - extremely rare - original oil filters, fuel filters and other parts.' The RS500 also had minor external cosmetic differences to its parent the Sierra three-door Cosworth:

Tech Spec: Ford Sierra RS Cosworth three-door

I figured we had more cars than we could deal with anyway, so I swapped both the BMW and the Rolls-Royce for the Cosworth, transferred Dad’s private numberplate onto it, and had a long think about how I was going to break the news to my parents. Recently refreshed and with a fresh MOT, TKN will be presented at Race Retro on its original wheels. Silverstone Auctions are proud to have been involved in the sale of many cars at World Record prices, many of them Fords. With 'Fast Fords' seemingly knowing no bounds in their desirability, and this one believed to be the very best example of the ultimate 80s Fast Ford, we invite and encourage any serious collector to inspect this superb, 5,000-mile Cosworth as its type is unlikely to be found again. Some European tuners, missing a LHD RS500 version, have set up some elaborate versions of the Sierra RS Cosworth for private customers, replicating some of the RS500's specs. A tuning business with experience of this model is Wolf Racing, which was racing with the Sierra from 1986 to 1989 in the German touring car championship Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft. [4] The original Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was the first Ford to wear the Cosworth badge and was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1985.

Other digits on the VIN plate should read N5 for engine, B (right-hand drive) for drive, J for trans, 3 for axle, S2 for trim, and BEF in the type box. As always with Inno64, there is a great precision in the release. All the tampo work is fine, neat and precise. The incrustation of the rear spoiler is as good as a 1/43 Spark replica at €69.95, and except some logos or plates sometimes a bit sideways, everything is top level. David Sears’ other Sierra. Here he’s sharing driving duties with Tim Harvey at the Donington round of the BTCC in 1989 On the improvement section, I would have loved a work on the tooling for the gas tank, instead of a tampo work. The RS500 was successful in the 1988 DTM with Klaus Ludwig in the Ford Team Grab winning the drivers championship and Wolf Racing winning the Team Championship, Both Grab and Wolf were Ford Works Teams and beat Mercedes-AMG along with BMW M Sport for the honours. For the 1989 season, the cars were reined in with even higher weight and boost penalties (partly due to protests from BMW & Mercedes who felt they were at a significant disadvantage) until they were no longer competitive, subsequently forced induction engines were banned for 1991 season onwards. [8] Knowing they were unable to be competitive, Ford left the DTM at end of the 1989 season. Silverstone Auctions said before the auction on Saturday that 'the attention to the detail of this car's maintenance cannot be understated' The tooling itself is ultra satisfying, at first glance you feel the bodybuilding look of the Cosworth. The car is low, but not too much, the aggressive wheel arches are stunning such as the always very detailed wheels. The tooling is engineered to be both street and racing. It works. In addition, we shall see some Rally versions later.

Most notable of all is the 30mm 'whale tail' spoiler, which is an addition to the bootlid to increase downforce. Silverstone Auctions said before the event that although the car had been very lightly used during the vendor's tenure, it was regularly serviced and maintained during this period by Tremona Garage of Southampton, a local specialist widely recognised as being hugely knowledgeable when it comes to Fords from the seventies, eighties and nineties. Suspension: front MacPherson struts rear semi-trailing arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers; anti-roll bar f/r The Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was first presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1985, with plans to release it for sale in September and closing production of the 5,000 cars in the summer of 1986. Although John Sears acquired the car from his father, he didn’t drive it – mainly because he was ten years old at the time. ‘When David Sears had finished driving the RS500 it was taken off the road rather than sold,’ said current owner and RS Owners Club RS500 registrar Paul Linfoot. ‘According to Jim Clarke, who bought the car from John Sears, it was being sold to pay for his university fees, and had been sitting in storage for the previous ten years.’Old three-door ECUs (Level 1/L1) can also be problematic, generally supplanted by a Sapphire’s L6. A cheeky Stage 1 chip wakes up a Cossie, and shouldn’t detract from the car’s value.
