About this deal

Ultimately, Star WarsLegion is more than just a game—it’s an invitation to create an army that only you could have built, gathering troopers, vehicles, and iconic characters from the Star Wars saga and pitting them against your opponent’s army in battle. The first step in building your army is to select your side and choose the units that will make up your army. Even within the Core Set, you already have impactful choices to make with units of Rebel Troopers and Stormtroopers, along with 74-Z Speeder Bikes, an AT-RT, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. You may be planning to play out a small-scale skirmish between just a few units or a massive battle, but either way, the units that you choose are the foundation of your army. What about Ion? Ion weapons aren’t very popular, but if you do run into them, they can cause problems. Keep the Ion squads suppressed and unable to recover, and you shouldn’t have too much trouble against the rest of your opponent’s list. Just don’t completely ignore them or let them flank your AT-ST and you should be fine. Highlights: Range 4-unlimited. So that is a long range. Unfortunately that is also a big donut. Not the tasty kind either. The I-can’t-shoot-stuff-close kind. Often the mortar will be firing by itself, as this range band does not overlap with any of the AT-ST’s other weapons, except the main gun at Range 4.

I spent some time in the Effective Wounds article exploring how difficult it is to quantify the impact of Armor, and then proceeded to attempt to do so anyway. Give it a read if you haven’t already. Blast. Your entire dice pool ignores cover. If you have the Weiss full monty, that’s like, 11 dice or something. I lost count past holy shit. The mortar launcher is for suppressing stuff. It’s good at that, but not much else. You might kill a stray Rebel Trooper on occasion. The only criticism I would have with the army building at the moment, is that there currently isn’t enough choice with the amount and variety of units that can be put into an 800 point army. This will of course be remedied by FFG very soon, with the release of numerous new army option expansions. Rebel Commandos and Snowtroopers are just two of the army choices currently in production, to be brought out soon! Conclusion & Final Thoughts on Star Wars LegionThere are downsides to Weiss, of course. 250 points is a lot. If you run Weiss he is going to be the centerpiece of your army, and the one that needs to be doing the most work. 250 points for almost anything doesn’t seem terribly efficient, does it?

Even without the use of its powerful MS-4 Twin Blaster Cannons and other heavy weapons, an AT-ST can still play a pivotal role in the confrontations between the Empire and the Rebellion—especially if it’s a part of the battlefield itself. Each commander (Luke & Vader in the Core Set, but more, like Leia will follow) brings their own set of three unique cards, and these are placed in your hand alongside the more generic cards. The important information on these cards are the pips in the top left-hand corner, and on the bottom of the card, and how many units they activate. Once the secretly selected cards are flipped over, the person who selected the cards with the fewest pips, will get ‘priority’ and be the first to act, and activate a unit in the Activation Phase. The two players then look at how many units they can activate, and each player designates those units on the battlefield that are within range 1-3 of the commander, and that have not already been activated. A token is placed beside the models to designate this. Without an aim token, you have a 42% chance to completely whiff. You still get the one suppression token from the mortar’s Suppressive keyword, but it is kind of a bummer to only get one token with a Suppressive weapon.

Being that Fantasy Flight Games (the company behind Star Wars Legion) won’t tell us the exact scale that they work to. It is very much up to us as fans of Star Wars Legion to work out the correct scale to print our miniatures, landscape and props. The 88 adds a lot to the AT-ST’s pool, especially with an Aim token. How does it fare against an AT-RT? Here is that same chart as before, with two lines added for the 88:

There is of course the issue of the Stormtrooper armour. Up until now, we have been working on the height of a Stormtrooper without armour. That is because the eye height of a 75th percentile man is also taken without any shoes on. The reference to Star Wars Legion being 35mm scale is not due to the height of the miniatures. The miniatures themselves are actually 40mm. From the original Publisher's Description: "Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Star Wars™: Legion, a new miniatures game of infantry battles that invites you to join iconic heroes and villains, lead your troopers into battle, and battle for the fate of the Star Wars galaxy. With Star Wars: Legion, you can build and paint a unique army of miniatures. You can command your troops in battle and devise masterful tactics. And you can conquer your opponent’s army to bring victory to the light side or the dark side!" Nothing can intimidate the Rebels like the pure size and scope of massive AT-ST walkers. A standard Star Wars: Legion army limits your forces to two heavy units, and hulking vehicles like the AT-ST will become the centerpiece of your forces. In addition to the MS-4 Twin Blaster Cannon, there are three unique weapons that you can affix to your AT-ST. You may supplement your standard blaster cannon with the The Stormtroopers unit leader is moved using the movement tool, and then all other minis in the unit can be placed in cohesion with the leader.

Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. This is not a complete game experience. A copy of the Star Wars: Legion Core Set is required to play. Moving your units into position is vital for claiming victory in Star WarsLegion, and the exact positioning of every miniature is crucial. The position of every unit on the battlefield is open information—what you need to plan for is how your opponent can use those units! Good positioning and the ability to read the battlefield could allow you to catch your opponent in a deadly crossfire or pin an enemy unit between two of your own. Fence cutting blades. You could certainly do a lot worse than 4 reds in melee, if you are desperate.

With an aim token, you have about a 68% chance to do at least 3 wounds to an AT-RT; without an aim token, that drops to 46%. You probably aren’t going to hit that resilience threshold in one shot, but you will get pretty darn close.
