About this deal

Service from HH was again red hot even over this Christmas break and i must mention Royal mail was of equal par too ! You can cut a rope, saw a piece of wood, open a bottle, open a can, ream a hole in a piece of timber, undo a large screw, undo a small screw, all with one compact knife. I still think these SAKs are better than most multi tools, and a lot less expensive.

This is by far my most carried sak. In my opinion it has the most useful array of tools on a sak. The alox scales are great in the hand and look lovely too. When the farmer x comes out, I will get one of those too as the added scissors will only make this knife better. It’s rust-resistant. All the tools on the Victorinox Alox Pioneer X, including the blade, are made of stainless steel. There are various pros and cons of stainless steel compared to carbon steel, but one of its great advantages is that it’s low-maintenance, and is resistant to rust and corrosion.

It has a good Alox grip. The “Alox” in the name of this knife refers to textured aluminum grip. It’s been part of the Pioneer series since 1957, and I consider it to be far superior to the thermoplastic scales of a typical SAK. It stays in my hand better in slippery conditions, and I also just think it looks better. I often get asked what is the best Swiss Army knife to buy, and my answer is always the same: the Victorinox Alox Pioneer X. The reason it’s the best is simple. The Victorinox Alox Pioneer X has the best combination of tools and blades for real-world use. It’s also compact, easy to carry, and built to last a lifetime.By that, I mean I set the idea aside for a week or two, because it turns out Victorinox was listening. Take a gander at the Victorinox Pioneer X. I would not say no to this knife it's UK legal, light and has plenty of useful tools, looks great and has really proved it's use to me. Appears to be as good as the other knives and can't see any problems with it doing what I bought it for. I have carried the pioneer for four decades on a daily basis and often thought about a pair of scissors and what if . Versatile little tool and feels and looks great, well worth the price and comes in handy for a range of jobs from the garden to work plus HH above and beyond in service

It’s sharp. I bought a brand-new Alox Pioneer X for the purpose of this review (I know, I’ll take any excuse I can get) and it passed “the paper test” right out of the box. I love a blade you don’t have to sharpen as soon as you buy it. I own a load of SAKs. This is a great, compact and solid tool. The addition of the scissors makes the original pioneer even more useful. If your bag is the wild then consider the Farmer X with the same tool set as the pioneer but with the addition a wood saw. The overall quality of the Victorinox knife is still fantastic with snap on all blades that would make some other knife makers weep in mass production ? The addition of scissors is very welcome and took about fifty years for Victorinox to catch on to ! There are no such worries here, the tin opener opens tins surprisingly well, albeit slowly, the two screwdrivers will drive any screw that they fit, and the spike makes holes and enlarges them perfectly. The sprung scissors are a much under-rated tool, sometimes essential for minor emergencies and neater work. These are not only sprung, speeding up longer cuts, but also precision-tight, cutting threads, paper, etc with aplomb. On a final point i would like to see Heinne Haynes have an exclusive run of the standard pioneer in Heinne red without the keyring as like the original soldier/ pioneer knife ! Im sure Victorinox would like to here from you HH ? I think this began when Benchmade unveiled a shake-up in their Griptilian line, offering an upgraded steel (from 154cm to 20CV) and handle material (from nylon to G10). This was something Benchmade fans had long been begging for; so much so that a market for replacement handles for the Griptilian emerged. It seems that Benchmade finally realized how much money they were leaving on the table and acted accordingly. So in 2017 I believe the pioneer X was offered , the model here with scissors that so ,so many wanted ? My self included ! Lovely Swiss Army knife. Feels quality with the alox aluminium scales. All the main tools I needed. Nice heft in hand. Ideal gift I am a late convert to Alox. I hate T&T so it makes sense. I already have the Pioneer which I consider the perfect urban EDC compromise, that is legality, loadout and weight. I use the Farmer for more rural EDC. The Pioneer-X I consider to be the perfect domestic and office EDC where the scissors are useful and the blade shape is generally considered non-threatening.

Performance has always been a strongpoint for Victorinox Swiss Army knives of all styles, and the Pioneer X is no different. Machined entirely from Stainless Steel, the tools deliver exactly as you’d expect, without bending, slipping or chipping in use. There are plenty of extremely cheap copies of Victorinox knives out there, and the lower-quality steel can and does bend and shatter when challenged, which can be dangerous as well as extremely annoying. Victorinox pioneer has been available from 1957 ! The swiss army used it from 1961 as the soldier until 2007/8 Fast forward a year and a half and I ended up joining the army and it's the one knife I've used consistently, I want to upgrade eventually but I really just can't find the right knife at the moment, and owning this useful tool prevents me spending money on an upgrade. The rivet construction is classic and im sure its just the machine has not quite been set tight enough on this run ?This is a superb knife, beautifully engineered and looks and feels fantastic. I am a big fan of Victorinox scissors, they are well engineered, perform great and I find them extremely useful in and EDC knife, the addition of the scissors to the Pioneer is most welcome.
