About this deal

Because of the inherent safety of Potassium Iodide that is FDA Approved, it is available without a prescription for radiation protection. Its use, however, should be limited to radiation emergencies and only when recommended by emergency response authorities. Potassium salts should be given cautiously to patients with renal or adrenal insufficiency, acute dehydration or heat cramp. Iodine is actively transported into breast milk, however those breast feeding should continue to do so (see Section 5.2). Lactating women should avoid repeat doses (see section 4.2).

An allergic reaction can have more serious symptoms. These include fever and joint pains; swelling of parts of the body (face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, or feet); trouble breathing, speaking, or swallowing; wheezing or shortness of breath. Severe shortness of breath requires immediate medical attention. Chemicals, reagents, diagnostics, sterile or any controlled products (unless products do not meet specification) Potassium Iodide is an ionic compound with the formula KI. It exists as a white salt with a crystalline structure that is the same as that of sodium chloride. Produced via the reaction of Iodine with Potassium Hydroxide, it is the mostly broadly used source of iodide. The FDA guidance prioritizes groups based on age, which is the primary factor for determining risk for radioiodine-induced thyroid cancer. Those at highest risk are infants and children, as well as pregnant and nursing females because of the potential for KI to suppress thyroid function in the developing fetus and the newborn. The recommendation is to treat them at the lowest threshold (with respect to predicted radioactive dose to the thyroid). Anyone over 18 years old and up to 40 years old should be treated at a slightly higher threshold. Finally, anyone over 40 years old should be treated with KI only if the predicted exposure is high enough to destroy the thyroid and induce lifelong hypothyroidism (thyroid deficiency). The standard dosage period is 10 days. Please note that the 10 day period is based on an important assumption - that 10 days is enough time for evacuation. There are people who live and work in areas contaminated by Chernobyl who have been taking KI supplements for decades. It's not that they are safe from radioactivity, but they are protected from radioactive iodine. IOSAT Potassium Iodide is the only FDA Approved full strength tablet (130mg) available to the public. ThyroSafe Potassium Iodide is the only FDA Approved half-strength tablet (65mg) available to the public. Any non-FDA Approved brands of potassium iodide should be avoided. The potential benefit of iodine prophylaxis is greatest in the young. The thyroid of the foetus, neonate and young infant has a higher yearly thyroid cancer risk per unit dose of radioactive iodine than the thyroid of an adult. According to FDA, potassium iodide may be used as food additive and can serve the following functions: [8]

and a metallic taste in the mouth. Consult with a physician before starting any new supplements. Referencesadequate growth and development, metabolism, and reproductive functions. It also aids in the conversion of An overactive thyroid gland, thyroiditis, and an enlarged thyroid gland with or without development or myxoedema have also been reported.
