About this deal

A rich and heartfelt tribute to this most iconic British machine. Focusing on the men (and women) who flew the Spitfire, John Nichol has brought a fresh and powerful perspective to the story. By recording their bravery, humility, camaraderie, tragedy and sheer joy in flying their beloved Spits he has done them, and us, a valuable service.’ Rowland White, author of Vulcan 607 Staff and students from the course you're interested in are on hand to help. Get into the details about your course, talk to staff about how you’ll learn, chat to current students about their experiences, and explore your department's space and facilities. Someone to count on As the RAF marks its centenary, Nichol has created a thrilling and often moving tribute to some of its greatest heroes.’ Mail on Sunday

There was an episode of Star Trek I once watched about a war on a planet that had been "sanitised" by the leadership of the opposing sides. No bombs were let off, no buildings destroyed, hits were recorded electronically like a game of battleships, but the casualties were real - those identified as being hit presenting themselves for disposal in termination booths. The story point was that this sanitised but murderous game of war had desensitised the participants and allowed the war to go on for generations without resolution. The reality of war is what creates the impetus to secure and preserve a peace. Now he’s the villain in my story, yet I can’t help but chase after that feeling only West can give me. Despite our hatred for each other, we somehow burn brighter when we’re together. So what happens when you helplessly fall for the one person you know is bad for you? West doesn’t make my time here easy. He’s arrogant. Crude. Insufferable. He torments me in the worst way, to the point that I can’t stand him. Yet he’s the only boy I’ve ever let touch me… This is not a Haynes manual for the Lancaster, thankfully. That would be dreadfully dull to me. This is about the human stories around that particular beast of an aircraft. The people that made the bombers in the factory, the crew, the actual bombing raids (the first one to bomb a factory in Augsburg is horrendous), the senior management in Bomber Command and more.Jill McArdleWhen Probe moved into the city centre Atticus moved to a larger shop on Hardman Street where it hosted signing sessions and readings from William Burroughs, John Cage, Brian Patten, Michael Horowitz, Ramsey Campbell,Gilbert Shelton and others. Running into financial difficulties in the 1980s Atticus moved into secondhand books and relocated to smaller premises on the same street. One of the distinctive features of the shop was the cut out figure of James Joyce made by Geoff Johnson. Geoff also designed our distinctive advertising. Attending lavish parties is not a common affair for Summer Savage, her family are on the fringe of society but her stepfather wanted her to get used to the glamour of it all. Her fourteen-year-old self sips leftover champagne as she watches the party in awe. Captivated by a boy who is around her age, yet seems older than her then steals her first kiss before calling her a whore. Telling her about her mom’s affair with his father and that she is probably on her knees for him. Summer suddenly saw the world differently after that night.

In case you read this review and have not got the book I should read the flyleaf because this is about the crews and much less about the Avro design and its utilisation let alone detail of its "forging" as a weapon of war warts and all because it was a machine with its faults as much as its successes. But that aside, it was flown by the gutsiest men the commonwealth and others could provide and I have always had great respect for them not to mention gratitude. A festive/birthday return to see what Crew and Wren’s life looks like in the few years since they finished school and travelling. Married with a baby, willow, we join them in the days leading up to Christmas and of course Wren’s birthday which falls on Christmas Day. They are navigating life as new parents and Crew working for his older brother’s real estate company. Nichol, as an ex-RAF man perhaps, is staunch in defence of his bombers, giving voice to their certainty that they had done a good and necessary thing, that they had fought the war the best way they could, any many of their fellow aircrew perished in the attempt. After leaving Lancaster Prep, Spencer Donato has had to step up into his family business. getting his hands dirty for a while he is pleased to have been moved into a behind-the-scenes role. Attending his best friend’s wedding brings him face-to-face with Sylvie again after not seeing her since she finally gave up her virginity to him before promptly marrying an older man. Their relationship over the years had been up and down, Sylvie drawing him in before pushing him away time and time again. Spending time with Crew, Wren finds that he pushes her boundaries, questioning her life and finding that they have their differences but also their similarities too. Crew finds himself feeling protective and possessive of Wren especially when a teacher with a certain reputation starts to show an interest. They start to spend time working on other subjects and Crew encourages her to explore the feelings between them without pushing her to do more than she is ready for. But as others begin to learn of their ‘friendship’ they are pulled apart but Crew is not giving up without a fight and proves just how much she means to him.

I’m a Lancaster, meaning I’m basically untouchable–or so I thought. It’s my family who owns this God forsaken private school that I don’t want to attend. But according to my parents, I have to endure my senior year at Lancaster Prep before I can return to what I love the most: ballet.

In the 1990s as second Atticus opened in Lancaster by Tom and the Liverpool shop continued to be run by Jill McArdle for several years more until the lease expired and it finally closed. Return to the glittering Lancaster world with the story of a damaged woman who gets her chance to redeem herself with the one man who’s been in love with her forever…

Young heiress Scarlett Lancaster is delighted when her father tells her he hired a famous pop star and former boy band member to play at her eighteenth birthday. But delight becomes utter disappointment when it turns out he wasn’t talking about Harry Styles. No, Scarlett’s dad hired Tate Ramsey, former lead singer of the band Five Car Pileup, who hasn’t been popular for years. A few years later and her world has been thrown several curveballs. From the unwanted attention from her stepbrother who repeatedly raped her, her mom’s affair made public knowledge and a house fire that killed her stepfather and stepbrother. Now she is about to transfer to the elite Lancaster Prep for her senior year but any ideas of a new start are shattered when she discovers that Whit Lancaster is in her year and set to make her life hell. Turning into a high school bully that isolates her from everyone but somehow still makes her want him. In 2014 Tom returned to Lancaster to reopen Atticus as a not-for-profit shop supporting Tasikoki Animal Rescue Centre in Indonesia where he had spent time doing voluntary work. My first experience of Lancaster's was in making Airfix kits of them, even in polystyrene form, the elegance of the design the majestic sense of power is so clear. To fly in these machines is clearly an unforgettable experience.
