The Defender® Thistle® is a very versatile spike and can be siliconed or screwed in place. It is suitable to use on ledges up to 9 cm (3.5 inches) in depth. If wider, two or more rows can be installed. It is the perfect solution for beams on a pergola or a narrow fence, and as it is only 62 mm high, it's very inconspicuous. Then use the scraper to remove the excess droppings or nesting debris into the bin bag; repeat this process several times. When all the loose debris is removed, including moss, lichen, dirt and dust, use the stiff brush, sponge and soapy water to remove any remaining residue until completely clean. Once completed, the cleaned areas must be left to dry for a minimum of 24 hours before installation. If soiled with droppings, we would always recommend dampening down the area with a disinfectant spray like Germ Clear™ Bird Droppings Disinfectant Spray. Once this has been left to soak into the droppings, you can use a scraper, stiff brush, warm soapy water and a cloth to make sure the roof apex is clean and dry. The Defender® Stainless Steel Ridge Spike has 2 rows of 15 cm (6 inches) long 304 Grade stainless steel pins. They protrude from the UV Stabilised Polycarbonate base of the spike at 2 different angles. This spread of pins acts as a bird deterrent and stops seagulls and birds from landing on the apex of the roof. Step 3 - Positioning: Start at one end of the guttering and clip each piece firmly into position. Continue along the guttering making sure no gap is left between the ends of the pigeon spikes.
