Localities in the Area
There are more parking spaces at Parkmill, a village a mile to the north of Three Cliffs. The path gradually climbs to the ruin of Pennard Castle, before descending to the beach. Beyond Rhossili, Llangennith and Burry Holms island, Gower gets pretty remote. A windswept walk through dunes and marram grasses eventually leads you to Blue Pool, a small bay to which you have to scramble downhill to reach. Until 1974, Gower was administered as a rural district. It was then merged with the county borough of Swansea. From 1974 to 1996, it formed the Swansea district. The final section runs from Penmaen to Rhossili, with a climb to the sandstone ridge of Cefn Bryn where there are more fabulous views of the Gower Peninsula. The reservoirs are in a delightfully quiet spot with lovely views of the surrounding hills and countryside. Look out for wildlife including Canadian geese on the water.

Outstanding Natural Beauty
This walk takes you from the Mumbles to the lovely Caswell Bay on the south east of the Gower Peninsula. The route runs for a distance of just over 4 miles on a undulating coastal path, passing Langland Bay on the way. Swansea Bay beach runs from the edge of the city centre towards the beachside suburb of Mumbles, which is also known as Oystermouth. Mumbles set the scene for a six-part drama Ennals Point featuring Welsh actor Philip Madoc. The series focused on the local lifeboat crew (1982)
You head along the coast to Mumbles Head where there is a lifeboat station and a nice long pier to stroll out on. From here there are great views out to Mumbles Head and the lighthouse.
Three Cliffs Bay is one of the most photographed areas of Gower and it's clear to see why. Once again you'll have to walk there, but the walk itself from Parkmill through a wide valley is a dreamy experience in itself. Agriculture remains important to the area with tourism playing an ever-increasing role in the local economy. The peninsula has a Championship status golf course at Fairwood Park just off Fairwood Common, which twice hosted the Welsh PGA Championships in the 1990s. Meanwhile, the Gower Golf Club at Three Crosses hosts the West Wales Open, a two-day tournament on Wales' professional golf tour, the Dragon Tour. Gower is part of the Swansea travel to work area.
