About this deal

Hammy Hamster is made using dairy-free milk chocolate and has a subtle taste of orange which was delicious. I did find this one to be slightly too sweet, but I can guarantee children with a sweet tooth will demolish this cute chocolate hamster in moments. Both Hammy and Mikey are studded with popping candy which adds another layer of fun to these chocolate treats. The chocolate has quite a sweet initial flavour, with a mellow smokiness that develops throughout the melt. There's a touch of tart red and golden fruit notes that develop in the middle, alongside a creaminess that softens the intensity (fear not, this Easter egg is actually vegan). It all leads towards a rich cocoa finish, that's intense but not overpowering.

At just 25% sugar content, I expected to find quite a dark and intense chocolate, with a reasonable degree of bitterness.

With Easter right round the corner, it’s time to start browsing for some of the best vegan eggs and treats available. Organic cocoa mass, organic cane sugar, organic cocoa butter, organic vanilla extract. Cocoa solids: 74% minimum. If you’re looking for an extra special easter gift this year, look no further than Booja Booja’s luxury Easter egg. The egg itself forms the body of Romney sheep, with four mini marshmallows making up the legs, and half marshmallows dotted all over the body for the fur. The face is made from a chocolate panel fixed onto the pointed end of the egg. This had sadly snapped in half during transit for me, but it was easily fixed with a little extra melted chocolate. Romney isn’t particularly big, so this is on the more expensive side for an Easter treat, but for fans of both dark chocolate and marshmallows it’s a must.

The chocolate itself is very smooth, but once that has dissolved in your mouth you’re left with very tiny flakes of cocoa nib. Not too much, not too little, just enough to set this Easter treat apart from the rest. I adore honeycomb, so couldn’t wait to try Butterm!lk’s vegan milk chocolate egg with crunchy honeycomb flakes. It even comes with a generously-sized Honeycomb Blast bar that is super chunky – far bigger than a certain non-vegan chocolate bar! We have given extra Product Sustainability points on our score tables to brands that are 100% organic, Fairtrade, UTZ, Rainforest Alliance. Whilst many companies have taken steps to offer more vegan options, finding a smooth and creamy vegan alternative to milk chocolate is hard to find. In a bid to offer their customers something different, Montezuma’s released a no ‘Like No Udder’ range featuring dairy-free milk chocolate bars in both plain and orange flavours. Using renewable energy in their kitchen and utilising an electric delivery van, Melt actively reduce their carbon footprint. pebble’s verdict:Many have tried to capture the creamy texture and flavour of white chocolate when making a vegan version, but few have succeeded. They’re often overly sweet with an almost waxy texture. Kakoa’s egg, however, has the perfect amount of sweetness and isn’t cloying on the tongue.

Best vegan Easter eggs we tasted tested in 2023

For me, this chocolate is a great option for both milk and dark chocolate lovers because it contains 45% cocoa so is both creamy yet ultra-rich and chocolatey too. Our incredibly moreish Peanut Butter Milk Chocolate Mini Eggs will be a creamy treat for those who prefer milk chocolate, while we have dark chocolate fans covered with our Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Mini Eggs. As all the contents are made from either recycled board or home compostable film, this is certainly one treat you can give to the kids with a clear conscience. Not only do Nestle and Mondelez score poorly on our table, they also received our worst rating for their management of workers' rights in its cocoa supply chain. Plus they both get our worst rating for palm oil. We would recommend avoiding their brands:
