About this deal

The innovative 100% polyamide double layered Power Shield (PWR|shield) panels stitched into the critical seat and knee areas offer abrasion resistance in the event of an off. The PWR panels are created with a unique Aramid fibre and knit technique which results in a fabric with unsurpassed cut, tear, and abrasion resistance level yet is far lighter than its Kevlar equivalent. Layered with the Cordura outershell, that also provides 3x times the abrasion resistance of regular cotton used in most motorcycle pants, theREV’IT!Alpha Chinos offer 5.9+ seconds of abrasion resistance which is greater than leather pants. Armour Protection Oxford's Original Approved Chino pants are a slim-fit, casual-looking pant with workwear roots, receiving a significant fabric upgrade through a monolayer Armourlite® construction. This specific variant of Armourlite® stretch twill has been interwoven with cotton to create a soft hand feel that performs to rigorous CE AA testing standards. Councils throughout England increasingly use surface dressing because (and this is in the words of the councils): It's built with a cowhide layer on the inner knee designed to provide tank grip when squeezing your knees to the bike while standing and riding technical off-road terrain. And, yep, during testing, it worked great. Too many "ADV" pants are made of a slippery material that prevents the grip you need to control the bike by driving your knees toward a turn or to counterbalance it. While you won't want to tour in full leathers, this is REV'IT! applying the right material for the correct application. What you choose to buy will depend on what and where you ride, but make those choices based on honest information and –where available – proven test reports.

Because boot diameter is very variable, REV'IT! cut these with wider leg openings, but also provide dual-position snap closures to eliminate any gaping between pant and boot. Hold the REV'IT! Eclipse at eye level, and you can literally see right through them. On a hot day, you might be tempted to ride in shorts… don't. Wear these instead. They offer a CE A rating and come with REV'IT! 's Seesmart CE Level 1 knee and hip armor, and you can adjust the knee armor up or down. PROTECTION! Hood Jeans were the first company to be awarded UKCA certificates by Satra Technology Ltd. But why are they so dang comfy? That starts with the triple-layer Schoeller material that's super stretchy for riding, so it doesn't bind and even offers a bit of added grip on your seat—ADV riders will appreciate that, especially for tech fire-road rips. The material is highly abrasion resistant yet still breathes reasonably well while offering a measure of wind-fighting and dries fast if you get it wet. If it's a full-on broiler outside, you'd want active venting. But otherwise, the Ramble is ideal year-round, with enough heft to offer protection but a look that doesn't even whisper "motorcycle."

The Cambridge machine is used to test abrasion resistance under EN13595, and gives a time to failure

With the use of Kevlar and other materials like Armalith, Covec, Pekek and UHMWPE –not to mention brand names such as Dyneema, Spectra and Cordura – while they’re potentially not as safe as leathers can be, a good-quality pair of motorcycle riding jeans can offer very good protection, while still looking great off the bike. Road surfaces across the UK vary massively, but you’ll find more and more of the highly-abrasive surface dressing (or chip-seal) on country roads. Unfortunately, a pair of flimsy Vans, a baggy tee and torn jeans aren’t what we’d call appropriate riding gear. Thankfully there are companies doing something about it. These only come in regular length 32" inseam. I usually wear 34"in jeans. The length is actually OK for me when not on the bike buy once sitting on the bike they do come up a bit short. I will probably wear with a pair of my longer boots so won't be an issue. Would be good if Oxford offered long (and perhaps short) leg lengths.

Any garment that’s rated as Level B under EN17092 has no armour fitted. It also only needs to be tested to the equivalent of Level A for abrasion, burst and tear resistance. Some products will be the same as the AAA-rated gear from a brand but with the amour removed, because the buyer might have their own, or might not want to wear it. I choose to only wear single-layer jeans with an AAA-rating and a thin comfort liner, but they’re available at a range of prices, so spend what you can afford on the kit you like the look and feel of.
