Barry Van Dusen creates paintings of landscapes, botanicals, birds, and other animals. Many of his works are done en plein air, and some are done within his studio using sketches he has done from life. Her work would be useful to inspire students to work in full color and explore painting techniques with a nature theme. A lily flower with a central pistil surrounded by stamens. The six orange structures are pollen-laden anthers, each borne at the end of a stalk known as a filament. (more) Her work would generate ideas for a classroom discussion on texture, line, and shape. A study of trees en plein air would be a great lesson to accompany the work of this artist as well. the Bedstraw family all have little white Cruciform flowers. Flowers’ visual, olfactory, and tactile qualities, as well as their associations with love, femininity, and the natural world, have inspired the work of innumerable modern and contemporary artists, too. They’ve figured prominently in myriad iconic bodies of work, such as Vincent van Gogh’s expressive sunflowers, Georgia O’Keeffe’s dynamic blooms, and Takashi Murakami’s playful, anthropomorphic blossoms. Among his many works inspired by nature are such paintings as “Jas de Bouffan,” a study of trees that he completed in 1887 and which now hangs in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and “Road Before the Mountains, Sainte-Victoire,” which the artist finished in 1902 and which now appears in the Hermitage Museum, Saint Petersburg, Russia. 8. Henri Rousseau (1844-1910) Natural Forms’ is a favourite topic for art teachers to pursue. The flowing lines within a natural form are often more forgiving than a manmade object. This blog post showcases a range of natural forms artists. There are many names you’ll know and hopefully some new ones too. Sophie Munns

LA Weekly’ stated that his “sculptural works combine the compositional precision of engineering with the organic abundance of nature.”Quite so. Homer’s fascination with the sea is clearly evidenced in such prominent paintings as “Sunlight on the Coast,” which he created in 1890 and which now hangs in the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio. Other nature-inspired paintings include “Gloucester Harbor,”“Song of the Lark” and “Cloud Shadows.” 4. Thomas Cole (1801-1848) Winslow Homer was an American artist who is best known for his landscape and marine subjects. A self-taught artist, Homer initially worked as a commercial illustrator, but the began working in oils and watercolors, often creating paintings during his working vacations. Steen, L.A. (1988). Like the labiate flower forms, they have a clear lower lip. The main distinction is the obvious hood over the top of the flower. This is called a galea. Think of a dead nettle or monkshood (the clue’s in the name!).

For example, L-systems form convincing models of different patterns of tree growth. [19] Brian Nash Gill is known for his unique woodcut art. He has a collection of relief prints using tree stumps that allow viewers to see the “ soul of a tree.” His unique works of art highlight the essence of a tree. Crateriform flowers are similar in shape to Cyanthiform ones. To be honest, I couldn’t find any online reference which made any difference between the two clear. Perhaps it relates to petal number? Or maybe the terms are inter-changable? A detailed lesson plan outlining exactly how to introduce the topic and guide your pupils through the lesson

A beautifully illustrated PowerPoint presentation giving some examples of how natural forms can be used to inspire art Sometimes both the sepals and the petals are even more highly modified. Members of the orchid family, for example, are famous for their intricate flower structure and specialized pollination systems. The three striped sepals in this yellow lady’s slipper ( Cypripedium canadensis, family Orchidaceae), also native to Minnesota, radiate out from the center and frame the “slipper,” a single highly modified petal that far outshines the other two, seen here just as little wings at the base of the slipper.Another easy one. Campanulate means bell-shaped, or bell-like. In fact, all the bell flowers are campanulate. That’s why their family is called the Campanulaceae! Although they have a longer corolla tube or throat, they’re still radially symmetrical. Campanulate flowers are actinomorphic. A good example of a campanulate flower is the harebell
