About this deal

Also offered is the convenience of switching between popular bands without twiddling an antenna coupler.

frequency. But unlike the delta loop it needs two supports. These don't need to be as tall as the single support for the delta loop. I could have made the loop a square

And now, a handful of the parts needed are located in one spot -- MFJ! MFJ's kit for Phil Salas' antenna building project consists of the following: The IC-705 uses the RF direct sampling method, which greatly reduces distortion. The high speed/high resolution real-time spectrum scope and waterfall display are incorporated in a compact design for the first time in this class. In my setup, I have two tripods to hold up each end plus a slotted PVC pipe to support the droop in the middle. When I can get away with it, I leave that stuff behind and just string the wire up in a tree.

The solution is a sand spike. Either buy one or make your own. It needn't go very deep if you're just using a lightweight pole and wire vertical antenna. The FMJ, HexTenna, and also the Alpha Loop all have the best HF antenna DX and NVS signal patterns. These three antennas are all mobile ham radio antennas, meaning they are designed to be used in vehicles.Using the Band Hopper IV could not be easier. The custom designed centrepiece fits on an tapered pole (such as our famous SOTA pole). It slides down to the optimum height (usually the junction between the top and second sections of the mast). If you don't have a tapering mast don't worry, the centrepiece has slots for cable ties too so you can attach it to most anything. Don't like masts? The centrepiece has an attachment point for a throwing line to use in the forest.

When I tried my commercial DX Engineering balun, it did perform the choke function, but not as well as I desire. A good choke will force most of the currents to remain on the antenna. A great choke will force even more of the currents to remain on the antenna. When using the DXE choke, I could change the SWR measurement slightly by touching the coax. It was good, but not great. There are literally dozens of “plug and play” portable antennas on the market, and the path of least resistance would be to buy one and be done with it. I did consider a manufactured portable antenna until I dug a little deeper and was turned off by the details. A half wavelength wire vertical can be coiled up small, with a 9 metre telescoping pole taking up the most room. Other items needed include a sand spike and an L-match antenna coupler. Have it erected with the 10m travel mast and it’s a great pair. I’ve used it to SOTA on 40m SSB with a Discovery TX-500. Worked well SWR 1:1 reaching Switzerland. Great support and advice from the team here as always
