Ramona prefers her teacher's original term for it, "Sustained Silent Reading," however, because it sounds more grown-up. Ramona Quimby, Age 8 (1981) — Ramona is in third grade. Ramona to Beezus, especially when she was younger. She constantly bugs Beezus to play with her when Beezus wants to do other things and often embarrasses her in front of others (such as stealing one of her classmates' candy, disrupting the board game she was playing with Henry, and destroying Beezus's birthday cake by shoving her doll inside the batter while it was in the oven).Beezus could not help feeling annoyed. Miss Robbins was letting Ramona stay in the class—the one place where she was never allowed to tag along! Miss Robbins would probably like her painting, because it would be so full of imagination. July 30, 2020 . Retrieved March 9, 2022. Gift-Giving Gaffe: Uncle Hobart, apparently not knowing a lot about kids, gives Willa Jean an accordion that she couldn't possibly learn how to play until she's much older. Not surprisingly, she breaks it within less than an hour. More Insulting than Intended: Ramona angrily calls her sister Beezus "pizza-face". She merely thinks of it as a variation on "pieface," an insult that she's heard bandied around the playground. But she realizes when she sees Beezus' face crumple that she must have crossed a line. She later explains why she used that term, and Beezus admits to her in turn that she got upset because of how sensitive she's been about an acne problem of late. The two sisters thus apologize to each other for their argument.
