a b Heaney, Gregory. REVIEW: Explosions In The Sky – "Take Care.." AllMusic. April 26, 2011. Retrieved on April 29, 2011. Apply the applicator again, but this time gently drag it to the outside edge of the record to remove any dirt and debris from the record's groove. You can repeat this action several times, but make sure to remove anything that's been collected by the brush before placing the brush on the records surface once again. To use the brush, place your record on your turntable and turn the power on. Then, hold your brush at a 90-degree angle and allow the record to spin under it. The idea is to move the brush from the inside grooves to the outside while it is spinning. Avoid wearing outdoor shoes on vinyl flooring where possible, especially high heels or metal-trimmed soles. Vinyl flooring is very hard-wearing, but the constant use of hard shoes will inevitably leave marks.

Once your records are clean, it’s time to properly store them. Older records came in cheap sleeves that yellowed over time, so it’s worth upgrading them with a more effective set.Place the record in the bath sliding it between the two cleaning brushes until it rests on the rollers at either end of the reservoir. Act as fast as you can on these, or they may stain. Wipe them away, straight away, with an absorbent cloth. If the stain has dried already, don’t worry, just dampen the cloth slightly first. How to clean fat and oil spills

You shouldn’t steam vinyl flooring, because although vinyl is hard-wearing and water-resistant, the heat that comes from standard steam mops is too intense for the materials that make up vinyl flooring. It could potentially cause the tiles to warp and melt the glue with which the flooring is attached – you’ll find out more about this in our ‘ What is vinyl?’ flooring guide. We advise using a damp (not sopping wet) mop or cloth with warm soapy water when cleaning vinyl floors. Take your applicator and apply a small amount of the record care solution to its surface as directed by the guidance.A good quality outer record sleeve will help protect the record further from dust, while also helping to preserve the cover art from wearing out every time you pull a record from your library to play. Again, MoFi offers a good affordable solution here, but I’ve been increasingly impressed by a new player on the market by the name of Vinyl Storage Solutions. Tangari, Joe. Explosions In the Sky Take Care, Take Care, Take Care pitchfork.com. April 25, 2011. Retrieved on April 29, 2011. Vinyl is a type of plastic made from ethylene (found in crude oil) and chlorine (found in regular salt). The two substances combined form Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) resin, or vinyl. To use, spray the solution onto your microfiber cloth, and lightly wipe in a circular motion around your vinyl. Avoid pressing too hard on the vinyl, as that can cause any dust or gunk to sink deeper into your record. After a few spins around, let any leftover solution dry before playing your freshly cleaned record. Cleaning up spills and stains as soon as possible will help to keep your vinyl flooring looking good as new for longer. We go into further detail about how to clean vinyl floors below. Dry Cleaning – Use a carbonfibrebrush to clean your vinyl before and after every play. Brush lightly along the grooves and this will help prevent the build up of dust and other dirt. The carbon strands (on the outer surface of the cleaner) reduce the static charge on the vinyl (which attracts dust) and the inner part (usually a cloth material) then collects the dust on the second wipe after the static is reduced.Remember to regularly clean the brush too. This should be a regular practice in your listening sessions. By far one of the most effective ways to clean records – particularly en masse – is to use a record cleaning machine. Depending on your budget, there are several routes you can go down.Step one is the proper storage of your precious records when they’re not in use. Firstly, always store your records vertically and away from extreme temperature or humidity changes to prevent warping. Never lay your records flat as this is a sure way to warp them over time. Secondly, dust and dirt are the audiophiles’ worst enemy, and the best weapon here is prevention. Always store your records in their sleeve and place them inside the cover. The aim of the game is to keep the amount of time that a record is exposed to airborne dust and dirt particles to an absolute minimum. Outer and Inner Sleeves

For a detailed step-by-step guide on how to set up your turntable, consider reading our complete guide. The Importance of a Great Turntable Wet Cleaning – Highly recommended when you want to give your records a deep clean. A mixture of record cleaning fluid and water (distilled, not tap!) works well. Clean with amicro-fibrecloth and dry with a separatemicro-fibrecloth. Make sure not to drag furniture or heavy items across your floor, as this could cause long-term damage. Again, hours of Googling can be had here and you might find some weird and wonderful suggestions too (if you’re brave enough to try the dishwasher or toothpaste suggestions we found, we salute you). But to begin with here's a few simple tips: Whether your record is freshly pressed or 50 years old, using a cleaning brush can make a big difference.

Companies, etc.

One of our mottos at Tapi is that prevention is often better than cure, and when it comes to vinyl flooring maintenance, that rule definitely applies! Here are some ways in which you can prevent dirt, stains, and marks from ruining your vinyl flooring before you have to take drastic action! The first and most cost-effective method is to use a manual record cleaning machine, such as the Spin Clean Record Washer. Compact machines, such as the Spin Clean are a great way to batch-clean a lot of records in one sitting. They work by essentially giving your records a bath using a cleaning solution and distilled water. All you have to do is gently spin the record through the cleaning solution while the built-in cleaning pads do the heavy lifting. You can read and watch our full review of the Spin Clean, here. Vacuum Record Cleaning Machines With the record spinning, gently apply the wet applicator to the playing surface. Hold it in place across the width of the playing surface for a couple of rotations and then remove the applicator from the record's surface. A worn stylus can permanently damage your records. If you’re unsure about the condition, play on the safe side and replace it. As a matter of practice, I replace my stylus at least once every year. How long a stylus will last depends on how many records you play, the condition of your records, and how well you maintain the stylus with regular cleaning. On average, a diamond stylus tip will typically last between 800 and 1000 playing hours. (That’s a best-case scenario of about four records per day). Doormats are a great way to make sure you don’t bring grime and dirt into your house and over your flooring – keeping them at external doorways helps keep the dirt at bay.
