Badman, Keith (2001). The Beatles: After the Break-Up 1970–2000: A Day-By-Day Diary. Omnibus Press. Recollections – June 1994 [16:51] – Paul, George and Ringo spend a happy summer's day together in Harrison's house; singing, playing and warmly remembering early days of room sharing, haircuts, Beatle boots, first cars and meeting Elvis. Any Time at All – Played over footage of the group's arrival in Sydney, Australia, on 11 June 1964.

Ed Sullivan welcomes the Beatles to the concert at Shea Stadium, New York City, 15 August 1965 – "Ladies and gentlemen, Honoured by their country, decorated by their Queen and loved here in America... Here are the Beatles!" The Beatles Anthology is a documentary television series on the career of the Beatles. It was broadcast on UK television in eight parts on ITV between 26 November and 31 December 1995, while in the United States it was seen as three feature-length episodes on ABC between 19 and 23 November 1995. [1] It was released in greatly expanded form as an eight-volume VHS set and an eight-disc LaserDisc set on 5 September 1996. The series was re-released on DVD in 2003, with an 81-minute special-features disc. The success of the Anthology albums was parodied by the release of the Rutles' Archaeology some months later. Delays in the release of the third volume of the Beatles' series ultimately meant that the Rutles' parody arrived in shops on the same day as its inspiration. Footage of the Beatles arriving at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, 7 February 1964. Voice of Beatles Manager Brian Epstein can be heard saying – "If there was a turning point in their career, a specific date on which the scope of their future was to be altered, then it was the day they touched down at Kennedy International New York to a welcome seldom equalled anywhere in history." The video elements preserve the original broadcast 4:3 ratio so the transfer is not anamorphic. Though I was hoping to see the show in widescreen I'm not in the least bit surprised or disappointed that it's 4:3. After all, it was shot for TV and much of the archival footage is also in this ratio. The video itself is very clean. It looks as good as the original broadcast if not a little better. There are no appreciable compression artifacts, I see no hint of edge enhancement and the contrast/color balance seems to be right on the money. Of particular note is the consistent brightness value. Since so much of this material comes from different sources it would have been easy for the producers to let the program jump up and down in brightness, but they've clearly put a good deal of effort into making sure that all of the elements are consistent.

Got to Get You into My Life – Played over footage showing the Beatles arriving at the Haneda Airport, Tokyo on 30 June 1966. Though I'm 38 years old and about a generation away from the original Beatlemania phenomenon, I've been a huge fan of The Beatles for as long as I can remember. My brother gave me a copy of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band for my 12th birthday and my obsession with the Fab Four hasn't abated since. To this day I consider them my favorite band, so it was with great pleasure that I opened up the new 8-disc DVD release of Apple Music's Beatles Anthology.
